UNITED/STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES T. SCHNEIDER, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, ASSIG-NOR OF ONE-HALF TO THOMAS SIDERITS, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN; LOUISE SCHNEIDER TRATRIX 0F SAID CHARLES ESCHKEIDER, DECEASED.
noon HANGER.
This invention relates to door hangers.
In door hangers, as previously constructed, it has been found difficult to detach the door from the hangers, and further than this, due to the relatively rigid connection between the hanger and the door, it has been impossible to secure an equal bearing for the supporting rollers of each of the trucks where a plurality of rollers are used in a truck.
This invention is designed to overcome the above noted defects, and objects of such invention are to provide a door hanger in which a truck equipped with a plurality of rollers is employed, in which the truck is pivotally attached to the door and independently adjusts itself to the guide, and in which a very quick and easily detaching of the door from the hangers may be secured.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view of the hanger attached to a door with a part of the hanger in section.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the hanger.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1. 7
Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the door is indicated at 1 and the usual guide at 2. The hanger comprises a truck consisting of an outer plate 3 which has an inturned bottom portion 4 provided with an upturned lip 5, such upturned lip forming a channel-like member with the hanger. The upper portion of the hanger is provided with a pair of outer spacing members 6 and with an intermediate member 7 which are integrally joined to the main plate 3 and to an inner plate 7 such inner plate being held in spaced relation to the main plate, as most clearly shown in Figure 2.
A pair of rollers 8 are carried by hearing pins 9 which are riveted or otherwise secured to the plates 3 and 7, as shown in Figure 2. If desired, ball bearings may be provided for the rollers to reduce friction. A top or cover portion 10 is also provided which is curved to correspond to the upper portion of the rollers. This cap may be formed integrally with the members 3 and 7, if desired, but preferably it is detachably secured in place by means of a screw 11 passing therethrough through opposite sides.
find zthreaded into the central spacing mem- In this connection, it is to be noted further that the spacing members 6-6 and 7 reenforce the device and insure an extremely rigid construction.
A small roller 12 is positioned between the members 3 and 5 and is preferably ofi center, as shown in Figure 1.
A pintle pin 13 is secured to the members 3 and 5 centrally of the lower position of the truck. This pintle pin receives the eye leted portion 14E of a bolt 15. The lower end of the bolt is screwed into a foot piece or clip 16 and preferably a nut 17 is provided for rigidly locking the bolt in place. The clip 16 is provided with short arcuate slots 18 at opposite ends which opens These slots are adapted to receive the shanks of the bolts 19, such bolts being secured to the door 1.
In attaching the device, the door is suitably positioned and the clip 16 is swung in a clockwise direction from its dotted line position, shown in Figure 3. Thereafter, the bolts or screws 19 are tightened against the clip, thus locking the clip rigidly to the door. The lock nut 17 is then screwed down against the clip 16.
It is obvious that the exact spacing of the door from the guide 2 may be secured by detaching the'clip from the door and adjustingit upon the bolt 15.
It will be seen that due to the pivotal connection of the bolt and truck that the equal distribution of weight between the rollers 8 will be assured, and an easy and free riding truck is secured. It is also to be noted that the peculiar construction of clip 16 insures an accurate adjustment of the door with reference to the slide, and also a quick easy assembly of the device. thus fa cilitating repairs. 1 Although the invention has been described in considerable detail, it is to be understood that the invention may be variously embodied and is, therefore, to be limited only as claimed. I
I claim:
A door hanger comprising a truck having a main plate extending from its upper poi-- tion to its lower portion and having an upper and lower auxiliary late spaead from ADMINIS- and integrally joined to said niainplate, a pivot extending transversely of said truck, pair of supporting rollers carried between and means adjustably carried by said said main plate and the upper auxiliary threaded pin for detachably engaging the plate, a third roller carriedbetween the lowdoor. p
