DOORBELL STRUCTURE.
y Application filed November 4, 1925. Serial No. 66,771.
My invention relates to a door-bell structure, and the objects-of my invention are:
first, to provide a mechanical bell structure of this class which may bek mounted onfa door, a door casing, on or through a build- Aing wall or the like for audibly signaling the voccupants of the building, house or room as to the' presence of someone outside; sec-v ond, to provide a bell structure of this class which is provided with a p-ivotally mounted ringing bell adapted to be positioned onthe inside of a room and whch is provided on the outside or opposite side of the wall or jdoor of the room with means to indicate a vringing or signaling means on the inside;
third, to provide a bell structure of this class having'on the inside a pivotally mounted ringingV bell andV on the outside a dummy .bell struct-ure connected with the former and. pivotally shiftable therewith, whereby lthe pivotal shifting of the outer dummy bell will produce an audible gong on the inside;
fourth, to provide a bellstructure of this class having a shiftable sound producing rbell, on the inside, a representation of a bell hung from beamrsupports, the supports connected and sliiftable with the bell on the 1nside, saidbeam supports being provided with chains or other pulling means at the oppo-` site endsfor tilting the supports of the yrep- "resentation of the bell on the outside for ringing the bell on the inside; fifth, to provide las a whole a novelly constructed Vbell ystructure of this class, ,and sixth, to provide a bell structure for doors and walls ofrooms, dwellings or other buildings, which isuparticularlysimple and economical of construe- (tion, durable, and-which will not readily deteriorate or get vout of order.
With these and otherobjects in view, as
lwill appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, as will'be hereinafter described in detailand particularly set forth inthe appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon, which form a part of this application, in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary sectional elevational 'View of a wall structure takenl through the casings surrounding a conven,
tional door opening in a building, with my door-bell structure mounted on the casings of the wall and extending therethrough, the
1 structure shown at the right being positionedat the outside vof the wall and shown lar parts and portions throughout the several views ofthe drawings.
` Referring to the drawings, the member 1, adapted tor be positionedat the outside of thev wall` structure, indicated by W, to attract attention to a vbell on the inside of the wall structure, consists of a shell 1a representing a tower or missionbell, which is sup- Y ported at the lower lportion and intermediv ate the ends of a supporting beam structure 1b which isalso made in theform ofa shell, the shell portion 1a being represented as supported, by means of ropes'l, from the supporting beam shell lb, all portions of the member 1 being cast "as *a` unit-ary element,`
At the back side of the supporting `beam structure or shell 1b is provided a backwardly extending hollow boss 11 in' which is secured, by means of a setscrew 2, the one end of an operating rodlor spindle 3. `This 'rod or spindle 3` extends vtransversely ythrough t-he wall structure and is rotatably mounted `at its opposite ends on and through escutcheon plates l and 45, respectively secured, by means of screws 6,'to the outer and -inner faces of the wall structure W, as
shown best in Fig. 1. The end ofthelhollow boss 1d is preferably vabutted against the outer face of the escutch'eon plate 4f.
The sounding, ringing orsignaling bell 'i means at the inside of the room orbuilding consists of av bell meinb'er molded of bell material in the shape of aA tower or mission bell, and is secured atits upper end to another supportingorl beam structure 8,v the bell member 7 and the member S'being also preferably molded'as an --integral unit. The
by means of a rope 8a, over the member 8. The member 8 is tappedas its inner end, as
indicatedby 8b, in which is secured the finner, externally threaded end of the rodlor 'bell member 7 is also represented as secured, q
spindle 3, as shown best in Fig. 1. The inner end of the member 8, at its tapped portion, is abutte-d against the bearing face of the eseutcheon plate 5.
I/Vithin the bell member 7 is secured, by means of an eye bolt or screw 11, the one end of the clapper rod 9, Which is provided at its free end with a heavy clapper member` Vfrom the portion 1b in a free manner and are provided at their lower ends with knobs 13 or similar members for conveniently pulling the chains 12 at their lower ends for oscillating' the member 1 and in turn oscillating the bell member 7 for ringing the same.
rlhough I have shown and desc 1ibed a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular' construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to'include in the scope of my invention, the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1.`In a door-bell structure, abell member, provided with a clapper, adapted to be pivoted; at its upper portion on the inside of .a Wall, operating means secured thereto and adapted to extend through the Wall, means representative of a bell adapted to be posi.- ti'oned at the outside side of the Wall and uoperatively connected Vwith said means for 3. In a door-bell structure, the combina-v tion with a Wall, of a spindle rotatably supported thro-ugh and transversely With the Wall, an integral bell member consisting of a portion representative of a supporting beam and a bell portion suspended therefrom, the
portion representative of the supporting beam structure being screwably secured to the one end of said spindle, a clapper pivotally mounted Within said bell portion, and means secured to the opposite end of said spindle for rotating the same and oscillating` said bell member. y
fr. In a door-bell structure, the combination with a Wall, of a spindle rotatably supported through and transversely with the Wall, an integral bell member consisting of a portion representative of a supporting` beam and a bell portion suspended therefrom, the portion representative of the supporting beam structure beingscrewably secured to the one end of said spindle, a clapper pivotally mounted Within said bell portion, means secured to the opposite end of said spindle for rotating the same and oseillating said bell member, said means being molded as an integral shell indicative of a. supporting beam structure and a tower-type bell tied thereto and ysuspended therefrom, and means secured to and suspended from the lateral ends of said last mentioned means at the portion thereof indicative of the supporting beam structure, to facilitate the oscillation thereof for ringing said bell member. y
In testimony whereof, I have hereuntov setmy hand at San Diego, California, this 27th day of October, 1925.
