Description

E. SPEIDEL ELASTIC ORNAMENTAL BAND Filed March 30, 1927 Patented Oct. 25, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EUGEN SPEIDEL, OF PFORZI-IEIM, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO THE FIRM: FIR. SPEIDEL, OF PFORZHEIM, GERMANY.
ELASTIC ORNAMENTAL IBAll'D.
Application filed March 30, 1927. Serial No. 179,585.
This invention relates to a bracelet or neck-band forming an ormanent and elastic owing to its special construction. The elastic band is made, according to the invention, of a right-handed wire spiral and of a lefthanded wire spiral which spirals are intertwined and then compressed to be flattened, and of a chain extending through said spirals and filling the free passages in said spirals. The improved ornamental band is distinguished by great flexibility and elasticity and absolutely secure against deformation.
An embodiment of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 shows in side elevation the elastic ornamental band as watch bracelet.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows in side elevation,
Fig. 4 in cross section and Fig. 5 in top plan view a portion of the elastic band on larger scale.
The elastic band is composed of a righthanded wire spiral a and of a left-handed wire spiral I) which are intertwined. The intertwined wire spirals a and b are compressed so that a flat band is formed, the windings of the spirals a and 6 giving way under the pressure in the longitudinal direction of the band so that they overlap one another like scales. On the upper side 0 and on the lower side u of the hand all -windings of the two wire spirals a and b are in alignment whilst onthe sides or edges .9 of the band they are displaced the one with regard to the other.
The hollow space 0 in this elastic band is almost completely filled by a chain d which serves to protect the .elastic band against deformation by pressure exerted from the outer side. The ends of chain d are fixed in the closing elements 6 fixed on the ends of the band and the length of the chain corresponds to the length of the elastic band at its maximum expansion so that deformation of the band by excessive expansion is prevented.
I claim 1. An elastic ornamental band comprising in combination a right-handed wire spiral, and a left-handed wire spiral which are intertwined and subsequently compressed so that the windings adopt an inclined position in the longitudinal direction of the band and overlap one another like scales.
2. An elastic ornamental band comprising in combination a right-handed wire spiral, and a left-handed wire spiral which are intertwined and subsequently compressed so that the windings adopt an inclined position in the longitudinal direction of the band and overlap one another like scales, and a chain in the hollow space formed by the windings of said wire spirals to fill this hollow space almost completely the ends of said chain being fixed to the ends of said elastic band and the length of the chain corresponding to the maximum expansion of said elastic band.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
EUGEN SPEIDEL.
