The central portion o the cover is disposed below the rim 19 so as to form a space etween it and, the mirror for the aecommodation of a puff. The central portion of the cover is formed slightly concave, as indi-` cated at 20 in Fi 2, and is provided with a number of smalperforations 21 through which powder may be sifted on to the pu,

surplus powder owing to the concavity tending to sift back into the cup.

The parts lmay be held in closed position by means of a spring catch, indicated at 22, this catch being operated by a button 23, the rim y 14; of the cup being partially cut, as indicated at 24 to permit the catch to work. llt desired the cover 16 may be provided with a bent up portion 25 by which it may be grasped and readily lifted lfrom closed position to permit access to the cup.

lt will be seen that with the construction described a continuous unbroken wall is provided vfor thepowd'er compartment at and below the cover 16 when the cover is closed, and at the same time provision is made for hinging the cover 16V and for the catch. The powder, however, because of the continuous lbottom and side anges of the cup cancompact not escape except through the distributing orifices provided in the cover. distributing orifices are preferable, it will be understood theyl ma be omitted.

Referring now to igs. 5 to 9 there is shown a box for holding two cosmetics in a form and a fitment which may be used to replace one or both of the compacts. ln the box shown there is provi-:led a cover 27, which may beV provided with a mirror 28, and a bottom member 29 pivotally associated with the cover on a hinge 30. 'lhis bottom` member 29 is provided with a removable holder 31 for holding a cosmetic compact as a rouge pad 32,- on al I plate 33.

Also associated with the cover and bot by pivoting on the hinge 30, is a central partition member 34 having a bottom 35 and a peripheral flange 36 which is inset at 37 and 38' to `form an abutment or rib 39 against which the flanges of the cover and bottom members abut when in closed position. While if desired a itment having a cover pivotally associated therewith may be used in this connection, a tment suchas shown in Figs. 7` to 9 may be employed in which the cover is frictionally engaged with the itment, such a cover being indicated at 45.

lVhile the invention has been shown and described in its preferred form, it will be understood that various changes may be made in the construction, arrangement and material of the box without departing from the invention as defined by the claims. hereunto annexed.

l/Vhat l claim is:

1. A vanity bor having in combination a member having -a peripheral wall or flange and forming a holder, a cover associated therewith, a bodily removable'loose powder the wall, said lid being provided with means for dispensing powder from the fitment, and means vtor frictionally engaging the iitment in the box.'

2. A 'vanity boa bottom member having a peripheral wall or flange and forming a holder, a powder holding litme'nt held in the holder having a continuous wall, a bottom, and efr/im osct from the wall, a lid hinged in the rim having `trictional engagement with the itmentv wall, a cover havingtelescoping engagement with-.the bottom member, a slot in the' outer edge' of slot for' securing bers together.

3. A. loose. powder itment readily removable from and\ieplaceable in 'vanity cases comprising; a container having la bottom and a peripheral 'wall, said wall flaring at its upper end, a cover associated with the litment, said cover having aA flaring iiange for. .irictional engagement withy the container wall, and an integral flange outside -arrd'co'ncentricall'y parallel with the wall for frictionally engaging the container in a box.

4. A loose powder itment for vanity boxes comprising a container having 'a pe ripheral wall and a bottom, a rim oiset `from the wall, a cover pivoted to the rim outside the wall, an integral flange outside the cover and bottom memllaaviim; in combination a. y

and concentrically parallel with the wall for frictionally engaging the container in a box, anda slot in the outer edge of the rim for engaging a cooperating catch.

5. A loose powder litment readily removable from and replaceable in vanity boxes comprising a container having a peripheral wall and a bottom, said wall being flared at its upperk end, a cover associated with the container, said cover having a flaring flange in frictional engagement with the wall, and

having a depressed portion provided with powder distributing openings.

6. A vanity box having in combination a bottom member, having a peripheral wall or fia-nge and 'forming a holder, a powder containing itme'nt held in the holder and having acontinuous wall and a, bottom, said wall having a rim offset therefrom, a lid pivotally associated with the fitment and having a portion depressed below the rim to provide a pocket for a powder puff and formed with powder distributing openings, said lid having a flange in frictional engagement with the wall of the ftment anda cover over` the lid.

7. In a vanity box, the combination of a bottom, a cover associated therewith, an intermediate compartment, a rouge compact in said litment being provided with a. covery having powder tight engagement with the flange of the tment and arranged to provide for the dispensing of loose powder from' the itment.

8. In a vanity box, the combination of'a.

bottom member and a closure associated therewith, a compact carried in one of these members, and a loose powder ftment removably carried by the other of the members, said loose owder iitment having its own cover associated therewith in powder tight relation.

9. A loose.powder tment readily removable from and replaceable in a vanity case comprising a container havingkan' imperiorate bottom and a peripheral wall for frictional engagement with the case, a flange extending inwardly and downwardly from` the wall, and a cover cooperating with the flange and controlling the dispensing of powder from the tment. p
