The pinion and associated mechanism is shown in Fig, 4c as located at the right hand side ot' the gear wheel 18, and in such position is adapted to raise and lower the win-` dows on one side'ot the car. Having described my invention, I claim 1. In a device of the character described,
. a window and means for raising or lowering the window including a channeled plate having an inverted U-shaped guide slot therein, a chain guided in said slot, and a tailer block carried by the chain and engaging the window, the trailer-block resting upon the lower wall of one of the legs or the slot when the window is in its lowermost position and the opposite end ot the chain engaging the lower wall of the other leg of the slot when the window is in its topmost position.
2. In a device of the character described, a window, and means tor raising or lowering the window including a channeled plate having an inverted U-shaped guide slot therein, a chain guided in said slot, a sprocket wheel mounted concentrically ot the curved portion of the slot and meshing with the chain, and a trailer-block carried by the chain and engaging the window, the trailer-block resting upon the lower wall of one of the legs of the slot when the window is in its lowerinost position and resting upon the sprocket wheel when the windou7 is in its topmost position.

In a device ot the cha lacter described, a window, and means for raising or lowering the window including a channeled plate having an inverted U-shaped guide slot therein, a chain guided in said slot, a sprocket wheel mounted concentrically of the curved portion of the slot and meshing with the chain, a trailer-block carried by the chain and engaging the window, a gear wheel Vlined to rotate with the sprocket wheel, a pinion meshing with the gear, and a handle tor turning the pinion.

6. In a sash regulating mechanism, wherein rotation of an arbor is adapted for raising a sash or the like, a casing, a wheel adapted to be driven by said arbor, and a flexible member co-operating with the wheel to provide movement to and support the sash, said member having one end operatively connected witli the sash and its opposite end free, movement of the member being provided by engagement of wheel and member intermediate the member ends, said casing having guideways for the opposite ends of the member and ,co-operating with the member and wheel in providing movement of the member in a fixed travel path throughout the length ot the member.
7. In a sash regulating mechanism, wherein rotation of an arbor is adapted for raising a sash or the like, a casing, a wheel adapted to be driven by said arbor, and a flexible member co-operating with the wheel to provide movement to and support the sash, said member having one end operatively connected with the sash and its opposite end tree, movement of the member being provided by engagement of wheel and member intermediate the member ends, said casing having guideways for the opposite ends of the member and io-operating with the member and wheel in providing movement or" the member in a iiXed travel path throughout the length ot the member, characterized in that the guideways extend symmetrically relative to the travel path of the member about the wheel and in directions substantially'parallel with each other.
