llhis invention relates to air compressors and in particular to an arrangement of air pumps for use in connection with two-cycle internal combustion engines, the purpose of t the invention being to provide a simplified and improved arrangement of supercharging and scavenging air pumps whereby, among other things, supercharging air may be supplied to the engine cylinder from one or both of the pumps as desired. The invention further contemplates the provision of a piston cross-head for one of the said pumps, which will serve as the low pressure piston for a multiplestage injection air compressor where such is used.
The present invention therefore consists in the combinationand arrangement of parts hereinafter described, whereby the several air supplies referred to are obtained in a more economical and generally advantageous Way than heretofore.
In the accompanying drawing is illustrated, in part diagrammatically, a preferred embodiment of the invention.

The advantages of such arrangement will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art and particular-ly so in conjunction with the present invention. For a complete understanding of the latter, however, it will be sutlicient to say that low pressure air for scavenging purposes is supplied through the prt 4: from the receiver 6 when the port is uncovered by the descending piston and supercharging air is supplied through the port 5 from the pipe connection 7 under the control of the mechanically operated valve 8.
Considering now the adaptation of the present invention tovan arrangement of this kind, it will be seen' that there are provided three coaxial cylinders 9, 10 and 11, having a common piston rod 12, spaced pistons 13, ltand 15, and common actuating means ternal combustion engines comprising two of any desired form, herein comprising the crank 16 and connecting rod 17. i I
The cylinder 9 and piston 13 constitute the low pressure unit of a multiple-stage air compressor which furnishes the injection air through suitable pipe connections to ,the injector 2.
The cylinder 1() and piston 1d constitute a doubleaeting scavenging pump, the cylinder at both sides of the piston having valved outlet connections with the receiver 6 and valved inlets from the suction head 18. For clearness, the valves and inlet and exhaust passages herein are indicated diagrammatically.
The cylinder 11 and piston 15 constitute a double-acting supercharging pump which supplies the supercharging high pressure air to theA pipe connection 7 and thence the port 5.
The suction side ,of the supercharger is suitably connected to a suction head 19, through a three-Way valve 20, one side of which may be connected at will with the outlet side of the scavenging pump. `When so connected supercharging air will be supplied to the cylinder from both the super# charging pump and the scavenging pump.
From the arrangement of air compressor unit, scavenging air pump and supercharging air pump above described it will be apparent that the engine can be kept supplied with the necessary quantities of air at the desired pressures in a very efiicient manner and Without the necessity for providing independently operated pumps or compressors for any of the purposes to be served.
It will be understood, of course, Athat the construction and arrangement of the various parts are subject to variation without departing from the scope of the following claims.

1. An air supply system for two-cycle indouble acting pistons arranged in tandem and adapted to supply respectively supercharging and scavenging air and a crosshead for the piston of the scavenging air pump comprising the low pressure piston of a multiple-stage injection air compressor.
2. An air supply system for two-cycle internal combustion engines comprising a pair of tandem arranged pumps adapted to sup- Q Lemme 10 compressor.'
