Specification forming part of Lztters Patent No. 164,675, dated June 22, 1875; application filed May 22, 1875.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, HENRY S. CUSHMAN, of Milford, of the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shoe-Knives; and do hereby declare the same to be fully de scribed in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a side view, and Fig. 2 an edge view, of a shoe-knife. or cordwaincfls knife, in accordance with my invention.
'The blade of the knife is shown at A as arranged between two plate-jaws, B 0, formed as seen, and projecting from a handle, D. Through holes in one of the said jaws several clamp-screws, a a, pass and screw into the other jaw, the heads of the screws being to bear against the first jaw.
These screws admit of the knife being arranged in various positions between the jaws, and with reference to the axis of the knifecarrier. The rounded end of each of the jaws serves as a gage or shoulder to limit the depth of cut of the knife, the fiat jaws answering as between such jaws, near their outer ends, by screws, as described, and arranged obliquely I with reference to the jaws, all essentially as represented.
2. The plate-jaws B O, rounded or molded to serve as a cutting guide or gage, and provided with a handle, D, as set forth, in com 'bination with the blade A, arranged oblique- 1y between such jaws, and secured to them by clamp-screws, all as specified.
