' FASTENING CLAMP.
Applieation fil ed June 9,
vMy said invention relates to a clamp adapted for fastening a closure plate over the furnace and with the catch for the coii ventional furnace door latch all as will be hereinafter'more particularly described and claimed. 1
It has been necessary in applying such closure plates to the conventional furnace to set the plates in the fuel opening and'fasten them in position by means of furnace cement orthe like whereupon it-is necessary to permit the same to dry before the oil-burner nozzle could be mounted on the same. However, with my structure it is possible toentirely complete the installation of the device without loss of time. It is also customary with some mechanics to drill openings through the furnace around the fuel opening to supply bolts therethrough for holding the plates in position.
This has been found objectionable since such construction impairs the operation of the furnace if it is desired to be reused for consumption of coal or similar fuel.
' Referring to the accompanyingdrawings which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
. of a furnace illustrating the application of my invention,
Figure 2, a section on line '22 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3, a section on line 3-8 of Figure 1.
In the drawings reference character 10 indicates a furnace having a fuel inlet 11 with perforated hinge lugs or bosses 12 and a catch 13, all of conventional construction.
Figure 1 is a fragmentary front elevation 1926. Serial No. 114,851. I
In the usual furnace a fire box door is provided which is pivoted on the bosses or lugs To main. swAa'rz, or:
12 and is provided with a latch which rides into a notch 1 1 of the catch or upstanding boss 13. i
A closure plate 15 is providedi with perforations 16 corresponding to the location i of the three-lugs or bosses 12 and13 and in i order to clampthis closure plate in position I provide a hollow casing 17 having a cylindrical bottom which tapers to a reduced "eccentric top 18 spaced therefrom but with one point of each circumference being ,in' substantially the same vertical plane while the diametrically opposed pointsiii eircum 'ferences are joined by an inclined surface.
The reduced'top of said casing is provided with an opening through which a. screw is inserted for engagement with the perforations in the bosses of the furnace. screw comprises a rod threaded at its outer end for engagement by a wing-nut 21'and having its opposite end 20 bent at substan-' tially right angles to its body 19. In apply- 1 ing the -device to a furnace it is only necessary to drillaholeinthe boss orllug13 whereupon the entire closure for thefurnace door may be applied without the use of tools.
If desirable the furnace may be restored 'to its'original condition whereupon. coal or other fuel may be used and the furnace will not have been injured by the change.
It will be obviousto those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in my device without departing from the spirit of the invention and therefore I do not limit myself'to what is shown in the drawings and described in the specification but only as in dicated in the appended claims. I
Having thus fully described my said'invention, -what I claim as new and desire to secure by LettersP-atent, is:
1. The combination with a'furnace having a fuel inlet with door engaging lugs,-of a* r removable closure plate for said fuelinlet,
hollow casings concealingsaid lugs, and.
bolts extending through said lugs and 'hol-- v low casings for securing them together, substantially as set forth.
2.- The combination with a furnace having lugs extending outwardly therefrom, of a. ably securing the lug and bolt together, subplate secured over said lugs and having perstantially' as set forth. r V forations through Which the lugs extend, a In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set 10 hollow easing fitted over each lug, a bolt exmy hand at WVashingtom District of C0lu1n- 5 tending through said hollow casing and said bia, this 28th day of May, A. D. nineteen lug'for fastening the same together, and a hundred and twenty-six.
wing nut on the end of said bolt for adjust- ARTHUR R. BAKER.
