Description

R. F. MINTY Oct. 18, 1927.
HAIR wAvER Filed Feb. 1e. 1924 FIG. 3
en NM, m
ATTORN Ys Patented 01.21;. 18, 1927.
PATENT ROBERT I'. HINTY, 0F MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
mm wAvEn.
Application led February 18, 1924, Serial No. 693,339, and in Ganada July 5, 1823.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hair curlers or wavers and the object of the invention is to provide a hair curler which will produce a permanent 5 curl or wave.
Another object is to rovidev a safe device in which the hair may e boiled without injurying the scalp.
A further object is to provide a hair curler or waver in wh1ch the hair is prevented from burning when being heated. v
In my invention I provide a tribe which is placed within a' heating element. The tube l 1s fitted with a cap at one end and a flexible l5 rubber tube at the other. The hair is coiled and placed within the tubes from the rubber end and clamped by a special clamping device to make it water ti ht. Water is then poured into the tubes an a cap is placed or screwed to the end of the tubes. The water Iis raised in temperature by the heating element surrounding the tubes and the hair is boiled to produce a permanent curl or wave in the hair.
In the drawings: Figure 1 isl a longitudinal 'sectional elevation of the device. A
Figure' 2 is a crosssectional elevation taken on the line 2-2 Figure 1. 80 Figure 3 is a plan view of the: apparatus.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of t e clamp detached from the tube.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 11 designates a metal tube which is provided with a screw cap 12 at one end and a rubber tube 13 at the other end. A hinged clamp is provided to close Vthe end of the rubber tube to make it water tight. The clam is made of two sides, 14Y and 15 "Y" which swivel about the pin 16. It is also' provided Ywith a swivel bolt 17 mounted on a pivot Ipin 18 which is placed through one of the sldes 14. A slot 19 is cut in the side 15 and is adapted to receive the eyebolt. A knurled nut is screwed on to the eyebolt and adapted to engage with the side 15 thus clamping the sides 14 and 15 together. The hair 20 is coiled around a cone or the like and is placed into the tubes from the rub-y ber tube end. An electrical heating element 21 is provided to pass around the tube 11 and is connected to a power circuit by means of socket 22 and the cable 23.
The operation of the device is as follows:
The hair is curled orgwound around a cone or w-ave,` ut in the hair before insertion in-` to the tu becomes ermanent.
Having thus described my invention, what I. claim is; r
A hair waving device comprising a metal tube having an imperforate closure at one end and being open at they other end, a cone insertable in said tube and about which the hair is adapted to be wound, a flexible tube secure@ to the open end of the metal-tube,
and provided with means for clamping it about the hair and means for heating sai tube.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set v my hand. l
ROBERT F. MINTY.
