Description

18,1927. L REBOUL ,99%9
WRENCH Filed Nov. 25. 1925 Ii IN atented Get. 18, 1927.
I1OUISE REBOUL, OF ST. ETIENNE,- FRANCE.
WRENCH.
Application filed November 25, 1925, Serial No. 71,387, and. in France December 4, 1924.
The present invention has for its object a wrench for tightening and releasing nuts, characterized in that on each side of the'end of a lever are secured two disks of metal of appropriate thickness, each of said dlsks presenting an opening of different size permitting oi: gripping bolts of correspondlng diameter. The number of bolts to which the wrench can be applied is equal to the number of openings presented respectively by each of the disks. These latter may be fixed or turnable on an axis in order to present successively at the most suitable angle, their difiierent openings.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the present invention and its different manners of applications:
Fig. 1 is an elevation of a wrench, Fig. 2 is a side view of same, Figs. 3, 4, 5 are elevations of three out wrenches. 7
Figs. 6 and 7 are views respectively in section and in plan of an assembly of disks and of a lever which form by their combination a modified construction.
At one extremity of the lever 0: (Figs. 1 and 2) are secured by means of a pivot 7), two disks 0, d which are interchangeable and rotatable and are held stationary at any desired adjustment by a bolt and wing nut e, which pass through them and through the lever a, said bolts and said lever having openings for this purpose. I
The disks present around their periphery, recesses f, g, h, z', y, is, Z, m, corresponding 7 each to a different diameter of bolt and which can be brought, by rotation, to the working position. It is thus possible, in the position indicated in Fig. 1, to grip the nuts with the recesses f, g, j, 70, the stems of the bolts resting in the corresponding recess of the disk which is not used. To utilize the recesses h, 2', Z, m, the nut e is released and the disks are turned through 180 degrees or 90 degrees and are then secured in their new position by the said nut.
The second extremity of the lever a can be of any appropriate shape desired; it may serve as a wrench, as a tire remover as in diiierdicated respectively at n (Fig. 1) and at 0 (Fig. 3), as a screw driver, or any other instrument.
The modified construction shown at Fig.
3 comprises the disks 0 d having three recesses, each disk having to turn through 120 degrees to present a recess of a different diameter.
Instead of being movable, the disks 0 d can be secured to the lever a by two rivets p as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. As previously, the second extremity of the lever can serve for any purpose and particularly it can similarly be furnished with two disks 0, d which increases proportionately the number of nuts which can be treated by a single wrench, as shown at Fig. 5.
The disks can carry recesses and openings I of any shape to grip any type of nuts, hexagonal, square, etc., of any diameters. They can be fixed to the lever either byrivets or bolts.
In order to render easier the changing of the disks, the lever a is, as shown in Fig. 7, provided at its extremity with a recess q, in which fits the spindle 1' which unites two disks 8, t, which are integral with one an other. A screw 10, whose head rests'on the disk 8, passes through the hole '0 of the lever a and screws into the plate t which is screwthreaded for this purpose.
Therefore, by the simple unscrewing or screwing up of the screw 10, the disks can be removed or put in position to correspond with the diameters of the bolts to be tightened or loosened.
I claim:
1. A wrench for nuts comprising a lever,
a pair of discs having peripheral recesses to engage nuts, said discs being pivotally mounted on said lever, said lever having an opening and said discs being each provided with a series of openings, any one of which may be brought by partial rotation of the discs into alignment with said opening of 515 the lever and a bolt insertable through said openings of the discs and lever to secure the discs in any desired adjusted position.
2. A wrench comprising a lever havingan opening spaced from one end and an open I slot in said end, a pair of discs having peripheral nut engaging recesses, and also having a series of openings arranged to register with the opening of the lever, a pivot element connecting the discs together in spaced relation and insertable in said open slot of the lever to detachably and pivotally mount said discs in said lever and a bolt insertable through any openings of the discs and through said openings of the lever to secure 10 said discs on the lever in adjusted position. Signed at Saint Etienne (Loire) France.
