My invention relates to devices employed for the duplication of autographic not-ations ordinarily by means of carbon paper, and of this class of machines, known as autographic registers I prefer to apply it to that type wherein successively and correspondingly punched strips of paper are fed by means of pin wheels having pins thereon'to engage in the said holes.
I do not wish to limit my invention to any particular type of manifolding machine, as many of the features thereof will be found applicable to manifolding machines in general.
The essential object of my invention is to provide a manifolding machine wherein a frame-work may be used.I carrying the operating parts of the paper feeding devices. and a cabinet or cover is .used to enclose these parts. Among other things I aim to provide a cover which carries thereon the handle for operating paper feeding devices, said handle being controlled by stops also mounted on the cover. I also provide a means for mounting a friction roll to bear on the strips of paper atthe feeding line or elsewhere,A particularly for the purpose of holding them during tearing off.
These objects and other advantages to be noted I accomplish by that certain construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more specifically pointed out and claimed.

In the manufacture of autographic registers in particular and manifolding devices in general, there has always been considerable expense involved in obtaining a nice finish to the exposed parts particularly since the parts are necessarily somewhat complex and if eX- pclised require considerable care in their fin- ].S 1. l
It is the basic object of my invention to provide a construction of autographic register orother manifolders wherein the operating parts are not exposed, but wherein, on the contrary, a cabinetor cover is provided which provides all of the proper clearances and covers all of the operating parts but the handle and the exposed writing surface for the paper.
In the embodiment of the mechanism illustrating my invention herein the effort has been to supply the necessary features in connection with handle mounting and opera# tion, frictional roll mounting, operation and clearance, and removability for the cabinet or cover without dismantling the machine in any degree.
I will not dwell upon the advantages of the cabinet form of machine, which lie in ease of paper mounting, dust proofness and simplicity of manufacture, as -these are self evident to those skilled in the art.
As shown in Figure 9 the framework 1 is set inside of a cabinet 2 on a base 3 and will be understood to embody all of the necessary features of a pin wheel paper feed machine. The pin wheels are of a size to project their pins through slots 9 in the tablet plate or in any desired eXtensions from the tablet plate, and the cams 7 protrude Aalso through suitable slots in the said tablet plate or its extensions.
The cabinet is 'of a size to cover the entire mechanism and is formed with an opening at will not require a special construction in the cabinet itself,'I provide a small semi-cylindrical housing 12 which is slotted at the ends at 13, and turned under at 14, so as to provide a retaining slot for the reduced ends 15 of the friction roll 16.
The friction roll is shown as cut away at 17 to provide a clearance for the feed pins, and I prefer that some sort of spring device be employed in, the housing to press against the ends of the roller and force the said ends downwardly in the slots 13 The structure now described, I hinge to the framework of the. machine, by means of a hinge 18 or in any other desired manner, so lthat the whole friction device can' be swung out of the way for access to the parts beneath. Tlie-ridge in the cabinet which has been referred to fits down over the housing 12 with proper clearance thereof. Should it be desired to omit the pressure roll, however, and/adopt the construction of my Patent 1,259,918, of March 19, 1918,-t-his can readily be accomplished and theV ridge 1n the cabinet altered into the form shown at 24, 24 in Figure 3 of the drawings of said patent. The housing is held down to the framework by means of a clip 12a hinged on the framework and adapted to engage lugs 12". Using the same hinge and clips, I may employ a mere barl instead of the housing and roller, same being cut away to clear the feed pins. The end of the feed shaft is equipped with a special fitting which `will receive the feed handle in exactly accurate relation. This fitting comprises a triangular plate 19, having flanges 20, 20, at two sides thereof, but is open at-one side, said plate having a recess 21 centrally thereof, for the reception of a centering and retaining pin. f
The cabinet is equipped with the handle 22 which is free to revolve therein but which has on its end inside of the cabinet a triangular plate 23adapted to slide into and fit between the anges of the plate 19, said plate having a central boss 24 forme-d at its center, wliichboss is mounted over the inwardly protruding portion .23a of the handle,

These stops are mounted in a small housing 28, secured to the outside of the cabinet and having a spring-pressed pin 29 positioncd to act as a stop in reverse to the feeding movement, and a spring-pressed pin 3() positioned to engage in a recess 31 in the under side of the handle.
The pin 30 has projected laterally from it an operating stud 32, which extends out through a slot in the housing, and is capable of a sliding movement to carry the pin 30 into and out of position of engagement with the recess in the handle. j
During each complete rotation of the handle it is free to move, but when it completes a full rotation it is caught by the pin 3() and just prior to being so caught it snaps past the back throw pin 29, thereby coming into a rigid lockedy position. To release it the operator must depress the stud 3 2, thereby lowering the pin 30 from contact position. Even when he does release-this pin` lllll however, the pin 29 prevents back throw so that a slip on the part of the operator cannot result in a clogging up of lthe pape-r.
It is evident-from the above that I have` connection with the feed shaft for. thepaper." Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters. Patent, is
l. In a machine of the character described, the combination with a framework, a feed shaft therein, and a cabinethaving side walls adapted to come down over the framework and cover it, of a handle for operating the feed shaft, and means on the handle and the shaft to come into engagement upon closing the cabinet over the framework, said handle being secured on the cabinet.
2. In a machine of the character described, the combination with a framework, a feed shaft therein and a cabinet having side walls adapted to come down over the framework and cover it, of a handle for operating the feed shaft, means on the shaftand handle to engage each other upon positioning of the cabinet, and additional means to lock said connection against separation, said handle being secured on the cabinet.
3. In a machine of the character described, the combination with a framework, a feed shaft therein and a cabinet having side walls adapted to come down over the framework and cover it, of a handle for operating the feed shaft, means on the shaft and handle to engage each other upon positioning4 of the cabinet, and additional means to lock said connection against s'eparatiom said lat ter means comprising a spring pressed member adapted to engage the shaft and handle on a horizontal line thereby preventing vertical lifting of the cabinet with relation to the framework.
4. In a machine of the character described,
' the combination with a framework, a feed shaft therein, and a cabinet having side walls adapted to come down over the framework and cover it, of a handle for operating the feed shaft and means on the shaft and han dle to engage each other upon positioning of the cabinet, and additional means to lock said connection against separation, comprising a spring pin held in the handle and said shaft having a socket for receiving the said spring pin.
5. In a machine of the character described, the combination with a framework, a feed shaft therein, and a cabinet having side Walls adapted to come down over the framework and cover it, said cabinet being removable as a unit, of a handle on the cabinet for operating the feed shaft, and means on the handleand the shaft to come into engagement upon closing the cabinet over the framework, and releasable means on the cabinet as distinguished from the framework for lockingv the handle at a desired position.
6. In a machine of the character described,
the combination with a framework, a feed shaft therein, and a cabinet having side walls .adapted to come down over the framework and cover it, said cabinet being removable as a unit, of a handle on the cabinet for operating the feed shaft, and means on the handle' and the shaft to come into engagement upon closing the cabinet over' the framework, and releasable means on the cabinet as distinguished from the framework for locking the handle at a desired position, against both clockwise and counterclockwise rotation.
7. In a machine of the character described, the combination with a framework, a feed shaft therein, and a cabinet having side walls adapted to come down over the framework and cover it, said cabinet being removable as a unit, of a handle on the cabinet for operating the feed shaft, and means on the handle and the shaft to come into engagement upon closing the cabinet over the framework, and releasable means on the cabinet as distinguished from the framework for locking the handle at a desired position, comprising a spring member adapted to project itself in he path of the handle, and
