Thus far, I have described bedding material which is commonly used for all purposes and the usual arrangement of which is well unsii ilar material and adapted to have the edges thereof overlap the upturned edges of the lower sheet 5. v V Y For tightly securing the bedding to the desired positions indicated in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings I provide upper and lower opposed sides clamping pieces 7 preferably constructed of metal to include down-turned clamping or clamping edges 8, or iii other words, being of' inverted U shape in cross section lso as to present the edges 8 of the U, in clamping relationagainst lthe bedding. Foot end clamping pieces 1() are also provided, constructed similar to the side pieces 7 with the exception of not being constructed in sections, and are suitably apertured as at 11. At the meeting ends of the respectivev side and end pieces 7 and 10 they are suitably cut out and iiattened as at 12, to facilitate proper cooperation thereof at the lower corners of the bed. n

The apertures 9 and 11 with which the side and foot end pieces 7 and 10 are equipped serve to facilitate the application of clamping bolts 13, a sufficient number of which are used to provide for the desired clamping of the said pieces to position. Each bolt 13 is constructed to include a lower double squared head 14 the upper squared portion of which acts as an abutment and engages the uppermost face of the respective bottoni clamping pieces 7 or l0, while the lower squared portion servesv to prevent rotation by passing through the be folded up over apertures 9 which in the case of said lower pieces 7 or 10 are squared for that purpose, a sharpened upper end 15 for facilitating the desired piercing of the mattress when being moved to cooperative position, and threaded ends for receiving the limiting or upper clamping heads 16 for engaging the top surface of the mattress and providing suitable abutment limiting the final securing, and the final upper. end lower securing heads 17 adapted to oppose the top and bottom surfaces of the pieces 7 and 10 for securing them to clamping condition in the manner illustrated in Figures l, 2 and e of the drawing. The securing` heads 17, especially the upper ones thereof, are readily removable by the user of the bed or an attendant, and by reason of providing at least one set of` side clamping pieces in sections it ispossibleto readily remove the uppermost section of one of the sides to facilitate the turning down of the bed covering so that the ocoupantcan readily slip into the same when after again applying' the removed piece and securing the member 17 the bed clothing will be clamped to the desired position against inadvertent or undesired removal.

It will be obvious that a bed structure constructed as herein described is very practical for camping purposes in that it will effectively repel moisture from above and below the bed, and will efficient-ly ensure against in advertent or undesired displacement of the bed clothing rendering the same particularly adaptable for use in camping or for use in Vhomes or hospitals where it is a common thing for children and delirious patients to repeatedly uncover themselves with the danger, `in the first instance, of the child falling from the bed or catching cold, and in the latter instance the danger to the patient, either through physical injury brought on during a roaming about in a delirious condition or a relapse suffered from exposure. It will also be readily apparent that the bed structure illustrated, by reason of the manner of constructing the same is readily adaptable for use directly upon the ground in camp ing, or in a home or hospital upon a suitable spring equipped supporting frame.

By reason of extending the edges of the top protecting sheet 6 over the upturned edges of the lower sheet 5, drainage of any water, due to rain or dew when the device is used out of doors, into' communication with the bed clothing proper is guarded against.

To further facilitate the transportation of the invention when compacted, one of the end clamping' pieces 10, if desired, may be equipped Vwith a pair of cross slots 18 through which may be projected the ends of a collapsible handle strap 19, suitable enlargements 20 being connected to each said end after its insertion through the respective slot to prevent further removal thereof. Vhen thus lequipped and applied as indicated in Figure 6 of the drawing a suitable handle for the compacted bedding is provided.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought the complete construction, manner of operation and advantages of my invention will be readily apparent to those familiar with the use of such equipment.

1. The combination with a mattress and the usual covering therefor, of side and foot end clamp pieces, and bolts adapted to pass through the clamp pieces and the mattress and parts of the covering for clamping said pieces to position for holding the covering to the desired position upon `the mattress, said bolts having pointed top heads for piercing the mattress.

2. The combination with a mattressfand the usual covering therefor, tective sheeting adapted to be folded up over the sides and foot of the mattress, an upper protective sheeting, upper and lower opposed side and foot end clamp pieces, and means for clamping the said pieces to position for holding the covering and the upper and lower sheetings to the desired position upon the mattress.

3. The combination with a mattress and the usual covering therefor, of a lower protective sheeting adapted to be folded up over the sides and foot of the mattress, an upper protective sheeting, upper and lower opposed side and foot end cla-mp pieces, and means for clamping the side pieces to position for holding the covering and the upper and lower sheetings to the desired position upon the mattress, the said'upper sheeting being of a width for lapping over the upfolded edges of the lower sheeting to protect against water drainage.

The combination with a mattress and the usual covering therefor, of a lower pro tective sheeting' adapted to .be folded up over the sides and foot of the mattress, an upper protective sheeting, side and foot and clamp pieces, and bolts for clamping the said pieces to position for holding the covering and the upper and lower sheetings to the desired position upon the mattress, said bolts being adapted toV pass through the mattress, the up-folded over edges of the lower sheeting, and the clamp pieces.

5. The combination with a mattress and the usualcovering therefor, of a lower protective sheeting adapted to be folded up over of a lower proJ the sides and foot of the mattress, an upper protective sheeting, side and foot end clamp pieces, and bolts for clamping the said pieces to position for holding the'covering and the upper' and lower sheetings to the desired position upon the mattress, said bolts being adapted to pass through the mattress, the upfolded over edges cf the lower sheeting, and the clamp pieces, at least one of thesaid side pieces having at least one removable section for the purpose specified.

6. The combination with a mattress and the usual covering therefor', of a lower protective sheeting adapted to be folded up over the sides and foot of the mattress, an upper protective sheeting, opposed upper and lower side and foot end clamp pieces,bolts for clamping the said pieces to position for holding the covering and the upper and lower sheetings to the desired position upon the mattress, said bolts being adapted to pass through the mattress, the up-fold'ed over edges of the lower sheeting and the clamp pieces, and each having a pair of securing heads, one for engaging the top surface of the mattress and one for engaging the top surface presented by the respective clamp piece through which the bolt passes.

7. The combination with a mattress and the usual covering therefor, of opposed up per and lower side and foot end clamp pieces, and means for clamping the said pieces to position for holding the covering to the desired position upon the mattress, one of the opposed end clamp pieces having a collapsible protective sheeting, opposed upper and low- Y 'er side and foot endclamp pieces, bolts for clamping the said pieces to position for holding the covering and the upper and lower sheetings to the desired position uponk the mattress, said bolts being adapted topass through the mattress, the up-folded over Y edges of the lower sheeting and the clamp pieces, each having a pair of securing heads, one for engaging the top surface of the mattress and one for engaging the top surface presented by the respective clamp piece through which the bolt passes, a double squared portion abutting the top surfaces ofv the lower clamp pieces and having a noncircular' portion for passing through said lower clamp pieces for preventing rotation, and a lower securing head adapted to abut the lower surfaces of the saidv lower clamp pieces substantially as and for the purposes described.
