BELT AND LOOP FASTENER USED Application filed July 1,
The present invention relates to belts and to a loop fastener used in connection .with the same. An obj-ect of the invention is to provide for securing the loop of a belt by one of the separable devices employed for holding an inwardly turned end o f the belt on the rear face ,of said belt. Another object of the invention is to provide a fastening device which will hold vtogether the two ends of a loop and provide means through which the loop may be secured on the rear face of a belt. Another object of the invention is to provide a belt of the type having an inwardly turned end secured on the rear faceof the main portion of the belt by a separable fastener with a means which can be secured by that separable fastener carried by the main portion of the belt to hold the two ends of the loop on the rear face of the main portion of the belt.
To these and other ends, the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be hereinafter described, the novel features being pointed out in the appended claims.
ln the drawings:
Fig. l is a fragmentary view of a belt constructed in accordance with this invention;
y Fig. 2 is a .side view of the belt;
Fig. 3 is a face view of the loop;
Fig. 4 is an edge view of the loop;
Fig. 5 is a 'face view of the loop fastening device before it is applied tothe loop;
Fig. 6 is a side view of the loop fastening device;
F ig. 7 is an enlarged section on the line 7-7, Fig. l; and
Fig. 8 is a section on the line 8-8, Fig'. 4.
Referring more particularly to the illustrated embodiment of the invention, l indicates the main portion of the belt, the two ends of which are shown in overlapped relation. One end of this main portion has a portion 2 turned inwardly on the inner face of such main portion and held thereto by two separable fasteners each of which contains a headed member 3 preferably secured to the main portion by passing through the latter with the head projecting on the rear face of said main portion, and the other of which consists of a socket member 4 passing through the turned portion 2 and having its socket disposed toward the rear face of the Amain portion for engagement with the head of the fastening device 3. A buckle of 1N CONNECTION WITH THE sAME.
192.6. serial no. 119,970.
theseI loops have been secured to Ythe portionof the belt on the rear side .thereof by various means. In this invention, the loop is secured through that member ofnne of thel separable fasteners which is carried by tne main portion of the belt.- In order to make it possible to utilize this member of the separable fastener for securing the loop to the belt, a fastening device of novel construction is employed which connects the two ends of the loop 8, This fastening device, in this instance, is formed yfrom a single piece of sheet metal with a central portion 9 formed, in this instance, with a central opening l0, said fastening device also having two oppositely exten-ding arms lll, each of whichv in this instance, is provided with anchoring means preferably in the form of two series of prongs 12 on ,opposite sides of the arm. The central portion 9 is offset from the plane of the varm lll, a distance equal ,substantially to the thickness of the loop and the endsof the loop 8 are placed upon these arms vll and thereafter the prongs lQfare bent kor turned inwardly to penetrate that face of the loop material opposite that engaged by the arms ll, thus firmly securing the two ends of the loop to the fastening device. The shank of the headed fastener that passes through the main portion of the belt passes through the opening l0 and the central por tion 9 about the opening 10 is engaged by the flanges 13 which is usually formed upon the headed member of separable fasteners of this type, the flange being received in the depressed portion 14 provided between the two ends of the loops opposite the central por` tion 9. In this way the socket member of the separable fastener may readily engage with the headed member 3, while the inwardly turned portion 2 of the belt lies closely against the rear face of the loop, making it thereby possible to associate the parts in close arrangement.
It is apparent that with this invention, the ends of the loop are firmly held together and are firmly secured on the rear face of the main portion of the belt. At the same time, one of the members of the separable fastener which secures the inwardly turned end of the belt on the rear face of the main portion is utilized for securing the loop in position, thereby making it possible, with the operation of applying the. member of the separable fastener to the main portion of the belt, to secure the loop to the belt, so that a separatev operation of securing the loop to the belt is dispensed with.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A belt having an inwardly turned end, a loop passed about the main portion of the belt, a fastening device secured to both ends of the loop and provided with a central portion, and means for securing said central portion to the rear face of the main portion of the belt. 2. A belt having an inwardly turned end, a separable fastener for securing the inwardly turned end to the rear face of they main portion of the belt, a loop passed around the main portion of the belt, and a fastening device securing together the ends of the loop and provided with an opening between the ends of the loop through which that member of the separable fastener on the main portion of the belt passes so as to hold the loop to the main portion of the belt by the separable fastener.
3. A belt having an inwardly turned end,
le a separable fastener securing the inwardly turned end on the rear face of the main portion of the belt, a loop passed around the main portion of the belt, a fastenino device having two arms and a central portion, the two arms carryingmeans for securing the fastener to the two ends of the loop and the central portion having an opening through which passes that member of the separable fastener carried by the main portion .of the belt.
4i. The combination with a loop made of flexible material and having two opposite end portions extending toward eachother and lying in rear of the front portion of the loop, of a fastening device for the loop embodying two opposite extending arms` secured to opposite ends of the loop spacing the ends of the loop, and a central portion provided with an opening between the ends of the loop through which the loop may be secured to a belt.
5. rlhe combination with a loop, of a fastening device therefor, embodying two arms having means secured to the opposite ends ofthe loop and spacing such ends, and a central portion offset to one side of the plane of the two arms and provided zvith an opening between the two ends of the oop. 6. The combination with a loop, of a fastening' device therefor spacing the loop ends and embodying two arms having prongs on opposite sides embedded in the'ends of the loop, and a central portion offset to one side of the plane of the two arms and provided with an opening between the ends of the loop through which the loop may be secured to a belt.
7. A belt having an inwardly turned end, a separable fastener securing the inwardly turned end on the rear face of the main portion of the belt, a. loop passed around the main portion of the belt, a fastening device having two arms each of which is secured to one end of the loop and a central portion offset from the plane of the arms and provided with an opening through which passes that member of the separable fastener secured to the main portion of the belt.
