Abstract

The invention relates to an arrangement of a belt, a wrist-watch strap or a similar band with an adjustable buckle and a slidable loop (8), the free end of the band and the loop being provided each with one of two magnetically attracting means. The free end of the band (2) or the loop (8) is, according to the invention, provided with a through hole (1) in which a permanent magnet (3) is positioned that has a thin, ring-shaped flange (5), preferably at half the height of the magnet, which bears on and is glued to or is attached in any other way to the band material, which extends around the punched hole (1).

Description

Arrangement of a belt or similar object having a movable loop.
the present invention relates to an arrangement of a belt, wrist-watch strap or similar band with an adjustable buckle and a slidable loop intended for holding the free end of the band in position close to the band, said free end of the band and the loop being provided each with one of two magnetically attracting means.
.An arrangement of this kind is described in detail in SE 8901319-7 and has proved to work very good as intended. It has proved difficult, however, especially to attach a permanent magnet to the belt, which usually consists of leather or similar very flexible material.
The object of the invention is to achieve a secure and nonexpensive solution to the attachment problem.
This has been achieved, according to the invention, in that said free end of the band or the loop is provided with a through hole in which a permanent magnet is positioned, which is provided with a thin ringshaped flange, that bears on and is glued or in another way attached to a portion of the band material extending around said hole. A specially efficient attachment comprises an arrangement as claimed in claim 2.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention the permanent magnet can comprise a surrounding, thin- walled casing to which the flange is attached. The arrangement may also preferably comprise the subject matter stated in claim 4.
The invention will be explained more in detail in the following with reference to the attached drawing which schematically discloses different embodiments of the invention, and in which Figure la is a plan view and Figure lb is a longitudinal section of a belt according to a first embodiment, Figure 2 is a longitudin l section of a belt according to a second embodiment, Figure 3 is a longitudinal section of a casing attached to an enclosed permanent magnet, Figure 4 is a .longitudinal section of a belt with another embodiment of a casing for attachment of a permanent magnet, and each of Figures 5 and 6 is a view of a belt hanging by its buckle with a movable loop just about to slide off the free end of the belt, and with a loop stuck to the free end of the belt, respectively.
The embodiment according to Figs, la and lb discloses a circular through hole 1 punched through the free end of a belt 2. A permanent magnet 3 is introduced in the hole with a cylindrical part positioned in the hole and with a radially protruding flange 4 at the bottom of the cylindrical part glued to the belt. Moreover, a loop 8 extending around the belt is slidably mounted on the belt and is provided with at least one plate 9 made of magnetisable material. If the loop should slide away towards the free end of the belt it will slide only to the magnet 3 at which the plate 9 will be attracted.
Figure 2 discloses a preferred embodiment which differs from the one described above only by the flange 5 of the magnet being formed at half the height of the magnet. Further, the free end of the belt 2 is slotted along a middle plane forming two tongues 6,7. A hole 1 extends through both tongues, and these are forced towards and in over the magnet from opposite directions after which the tongues are reunited again by gluing or sewing. The belt may, of course, as an alternative, initially comprise two layers which have been united after positioning of the magnet in place.
A smallscale production excludes a forming of magnets provided with a flange. In such cases it is possible, as shown in Figure 3, to arrange a casing 10 made of a suitable material and having a flange 11 positioned as shown above, e.g. at half the height of the casing, and to secure a circular standard magnet 12 by gluing to the inner wall of the casing 11, which can be openended at both or only one end.
A casing 20 with a flange 21 at one end plane can, as an alternative, have the shape shown in Figure 4 with a tubular extension 22 of the casing 20 carrying a circular washer 23. When said parts have been placed at a hole of a belt 25 the extension 22 can be pressed radially outwards to form a tubular rivet joint.
The importance of the possibility of arranging a magnet at the free end of a belt provided with a movable loop designed to be attracted by the magnet is greater than probably realized at once. A fact is, however, though till now obviously neglected, that a belt provided with a movable loop sooner or later will lose the loop if this is not connected to the belt in seme way, e.g. as in case of very expensive belts where the loop is attached to the buckle by a short strap, which also means, that the loop can be moved only the short distance permitted by the strap. This inconveniance is automatically avoided by the invention. This is clearly evident from Figure 5, which discloses a belt 30 that in the usual manner is hung by the buckle 31. A movable loop immediately starts sliding down along the belt. The free end of the belt is provided with a permanent magnet 33. With no magnet the loop should, of course, slide off the belt and be lost. Thanks to the magnet 33 the loop is arrested at the magnet, as shown in Figure 6.
