HOTBISTS SERVICE-RECORDING DVICE.
IApplication led March 21, 1925. Serial No. 17,186.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved recording device of inexpensive and simpliied construction, including a number of recording or indicating devices mounted and arranged in a supporting enclosure and settable to record or indicate the mileage that the automobile had traveled when certain work had been performed or adjustments had been made upon parts of lo the automobile. By use of a device of this character the owner or driver of the automobile niay maintain a conveniently settable and visible indicator of desirable or essential data, whereby he will be enabled to keep l5 himself informed as to facts that might otherwise be overlooked and result in damage to the vehicle. i
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved recording or'indicating device possessing the advantageous features of construction and mode of operation herein described, reference being made to' the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is an elevation showing the face of 25, the device and the indicating instrumentalities therein.
Fig. 2 is a side edge elevation with parts of the -casing broken away to disclose the arrangement of the indicating devices. U
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. l.
In the embodiment of the invention shown the casing comprises a plate shaped to provide a front wall 1, sideiedge walls 2, and upper and lower end walls 3. The casing is completed by a wall 4 enclosed within the margins of the side and end walls and secured thereto and preferably possessing the characteristics of resiliency and flexibility.
A number of vertical series of horizontal slots 5, each of which has a number of pairs of vertical notches 6 extending from its upper and lower edges, respectively, are -formed in the front wall or face plate 1.
To each of the side edge walls 2 an angular late 7 is attached by rivets 8 passing hrough said walls and one of the angular ortions of said plates, while the other angul)ar portions of said plates extend inwardly against the inner side of the plate 4 (Fig. 3)
Each of the plates 7 has an inwardly offset arm 9 for each 'of the adjacent slots 5 and in said arms 9 the shafts 10 are mounted.
The indicators are independently rotative on the shafts 10, each of saidindicators comprsing a barrel or cylindrical portion 11 and respective parts 11 to which they are attached and operate within the notches 6. Each disc 12 is formed with v a peripheral series of notches 13 corresponding in number to the number of digits on the part 11 and designed and adapted to be engaged byV any suitable implement or by the finger to turn the indicator from one adjustment to another. The wall 4 is shaped to provide a projection 14 for each disc, which projections engage in the notches 13 and hold the indicators :from accidental turning, but, due to the resilient and lexiblecharacter of the plate 4, permit the indicators to be turned as previously stated.
The device maybe mounted in position for convenient visibility in different ways, as by providing a threaded stud 15 to extend through a supportingpart and receive a nut; or, the device may be supported by a hanger extension 16 arranged to engage over a support, or both of 'said devices may be employed.
The device may be made of such capacity as to maintain a constant record of all essential data needed in the proper maintenance oi the' automobile. As shown there are a set of dials indicating the mileage at which a new tire was mounted on each wheel. There are also sets of dials pertaining to the engine; one set indicating the mileage at which the crank case was drained and refilled; another set indicating the mileage at Which the carbon was removed; another set indicatin the mileage at which the valves were groun while the remaining sets of dials maintain a record of other mileage changes. The Jface plate contains notations to indicate the func-y tions of the respective indicating devices.
I am aware that the invention ma be varied structurally without departure rom the nature and principle thereof. I do not restrict myself unessentially, but what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device ofthe character described comprising a casing front wall having a series of transverse slots, a resilient casing back wall, side and end walls connecting the comprising a .casing composed of a front Wall having series of transverse slots, a resilient plate forming the back Wall of the cas- 15 ing andhaving series of pro'ections thereon opposite said series of slots, s afts supported in the casing opposite said slots, series of indicating devices mounted on said shafts and arranged to display rows of digits 20 through said slots respectively, and provided with peripheral indentations engaging said projections on said late.
