Description

J. W. HUDSON.
LICENSE DISPLAY TAG.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 10. ms.
1,993,099. I Patented Feb. 4, 1919.
JAMES 'W. HUDSON, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
LICENSE-DISPLAY TAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 10, 1915. Serial No. 33,268.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs W. Henson, a
play tag.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a license display tag capable of con tinuous. use from year to year without the necessity of obtaining a new tag every time the license is renewed, license in this particular instance pertaining to automobile licenses. V
.Another object of my invention is to provide a license display tag which is simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, strong and durable, and one which is easily and quickly assembled for use.
With the above and other objects in view my inventlon resides preferably in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of a license displaying tag embodying the preferred form of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a display tag taken on the longitudinal axis thereof. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of my improved tagz without the date plate, and
ig. 4 is a perspective viewof the date plate which I employ in the preferred embodiment of my invention.
Similar reference characters indicate similar arts throughout the various views of the rawing.
It is a well known fact to those familiar with the usual form of license tag that the whole tag must be removed and replaced by a new tag when the license is renewed from year to year. It is an object, together with the foregoing to obviate the necessity of the renewal of the entire tag, it being possible in this form of tag to build the same integral with the body of an automobile or integral with the head lights,
or some such consplcuous po1nt.
I have provided a main plate 1 on which the license number 2 and the territorial designation 3 is placed. The plate 1 is pro vided with a plurality of elongated apertures 4 adjacent one extremity thereof for a purpose which will hereinafter appear.
A supplemental date plate is provided and desi nated 5, said date plate having a license num er 6 corresponding to the license num ber 2 and the date of the year for which the license is granted designated 7 thereon. A
plurality of bendable tongues 8 are pro vided on the end and side marginal edges of the plate 5 and are complementally disposed for engagement in the apertures 4:
formed in the plate 1. The mounting of the date plate 5 on the main plate 1 is shown to advantage in Fig. 2, wherein the tongues 8 are inserted through the apertures 4: and bent down upon the plate 1, serving to secure the date plate 5 thereon.
Patented Feb. 4, 1919.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, use, and advantages of my invention may be' gathered. It will be noted that the complete renewal of the main plate 1 is unnecessary and that the renewal of the plate 5 may be ac complished by straightening the tongues 8 to allow of detachment of the plates 1 and 5, whereupon a new plate having a new date thereon may be attached. It will also be noted that, as stated hereinbefore, the main plate 1 may be easily formed as the side wall of a headlight, rear light, or the like, of course, it being understood that the same is placed in some tomobile.
While I have shown and described my invention as possessing a peculiar form. and construction, it is desired that it be understood that I may make such changes in the details thereof that do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
conspicuous place on an au- .plate, whereby such slip will be identified the slip will be identified with the permanent l0 1 with the number of the car and cannot be indicia of the plate.
used with another number plate. In testimony whereof I affix my signature 2. The combination with a plate having in presence of two witnesses. 5 upon it a permanent indicia and a separate JAMES W HUDSON space, of a detachable yearly license sli adapted to be attached to the plate at sai Witnesses: space and having u on it indicia correspond- W.
