Likewise, this ordinary method of procedure renders necessary the frequent sweeping of the floor of the shop so, that the hairs are thrown into the air together with dust and dirt from the floor. In co'nside'ra-., tionof the foregoing the present invention has as its primary object to prov de, in connection With-motor operated haifclippars, means for automatically collecting and disposing of the hairs as they are clipped from the head so that they will not fall upon the atron and cause annoyance, nor, will they fall upon the floorand necessitate subsequent cleaning of the door.
More specifically, the present 1nvention has as its ObJBCt to provide means for creat ing suction with a tube which has an intake located in proximity to. the blades of the clippers, so as to collect and draw through the tube the hairs clipped from the head, and further to provide means for directing these hairs into a suitable closed receptacle.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the means tor disposing of the clipped hairs, that it will not in any way Interfere with use of the clippers in the ordinary manner and will, in fact, facilitate manipulation of the clippers, as the blades thereof will be automatically cleared of hair which would otherwise accumulate thereon and tend to obscure the blades from view;

The numeral 23 in cafes a hollow, substantially funnel-shaped coupling wh ch is provided at its larger end with a circumscribing flange 24 through which securing screws 25 are fitted for the purpose of removably securing the couplin to the casing section 13, and to the smal er end of the coupling, or, in other words, its outer end, there is connected one end 'of a tubular flexible conduit 26 through which air is to be inducted to convey the clipped hairs to the casing of the suction creating device. The shaft 11 of the rotor 12 projects into the coupling 23 and has connected to it the other end of the flexible shaft 5, the flexible shaft extending longitudinally within the tubular conduit 26. The other end of the tubular conduit '26 is fitted, as at 27-, to the inner end of the intake nozzle heretofore referred to and indicated in general by the numeral 28. This nozzle comprises a substantially flat shank portion which is disposed upon the upper slde of the casing 3 of the clipper mechanism and has its outer end portion turned downwardly as indicated by the numeral 29 so that its intake end will be positioned substantially above the forward ends of the blades 4 of the clippers 2. This end of the intake nozzle is considerably widened, as indicated by the numeral 30, so that its mouth, will extend entirely across the upper sides of the series of blades 4, and the upper wall of the mouth is upwardly and outwardly flared as indicated by the numeral 31, so that the mouth is of greater height at its intake end than at its juncture with the downturned portion 29 of the shank of the nozzle, and is consequently well adapted to receive all of the hairs severed by the blades of the clippers. The nozzle is preferably provided in rear of the laterally disposed widened portion of the nozzle mouth 30, with an attaching ear 32 for the engagement therethrough of the shank of the tensioning screw 33 of the clippers 2, although the nozzle might be' secured in any other suitable manner to the clippers. The rear end of the shank of the nozzle, where it is connected with the intake end of the tubular conduit 26, is turned downwardly to engage behind the rear end of the casing 3 and is provided pose with an opening 34 to accommodate the usual neck extension 35 through which the flexible shaft 5 extends.
In order that the flexible shaft 5 may rotate. freely and be packed in grease and, likewise, in order to prevent the clipped hair which is drawn through the tu ular conduit 26, coming in contact with said shaft a tubular flexiblesheath 36 is disd to surround the said shaft 5 throughout its length and grease or other lubricant maiy be introduced into this sheath.
t will be understood from the foregoing descriptlon of the invention that as the hairs are clipped through the reciprocation of the movable blades of the clippers 2, they will be drawn by suction into the intake nozzle 28 and through the conduit 26 and coupling 23, and delivered through the nozzle 20 into the rece tacle 22 so that none of the hairs will fal upon the apron which is draped over the patron of the barber shop in which the device is used nor will any of the hairs fall to the floor. I Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. In combination with an electric motor, clippenmechanism and a flexible shaft between the said motor and clipper mecha- .nism, of a shaft forming coupling means between the'shaft' 'of themotor and the "said flexible shaft, a casing secured to the casing of the motor and havmg the coupling shaft mounted therein and provided with an inlet and an outlet, a funnel shaped coupling attached to the inlet side of the casing, a suction creatin member within the casing and, secured to t c said coupling shaft, a nozzle adjacent the clip or mechanism and a conduit receiving an housing the flexible shaft and forming connecting means'between the said nozzle and the funnel sha ed coupling.
2. In combination with an e ectric motor, clipper mechanism and a flexible shaft between the said motor and clipper mechanism, of a coupling shaft connecting the flexible and motor shafts, a casing having a neck portion secured to the casing of the motor and receiving the adjacent ends of the said coupling and motor shafts, and having an outlet and an openside, a closure for the open side of the casing having inlet openings and receiving an end portion of the couplingshaft which is mounted therein, a
suction creating member within the casing secured to the cou ling shaft, a nozzle associatedwith the c ipper mechanism to receive the clippings, a funnel shaped coupling attached to the closure at the open side of the casing and a conduit receiving the'flexible shaft and connecting the nozzle and the funnel shaped cougling.
