IMPROVEMENI' IN PICTURE-EXHIBITORS.
Specification forming partlof Letters Patent No. 164,138, dated June 8, 1875 application led Y t. Y Y i April 24, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ULIUs BUECHNER, of St. Paul, Ramsey county, Minnesota, have in vented a new and Improved Picture-Gase, of
Which the following is a specification Figure l represents aY front view of my improved picture-case with iiaps in open position ;V Fig. 2, the same closed up 5' and Figs. 3 and 4, a vertical transverse section and front view, showing the case used, respectively, as a Astand or hung to the Wall.
Vvention consists of a picture-case With hinged back, having folding side, top, and bottom iiaps, that may be closed at the front or back, for inclosing or exhibiting the picture.
In the drawing', A represents a picture case or frame, of leather, rubber, velvet, or other suitable material, in Which'the picture and coveringglass may be inserted in the usual manner. The case may be furnished in any suitable size and ornamental manner, and is provided with a back part, B, having side iaps C, a bottom flap, D, of equal size with the ease, and a tongue,--E, at the top, that slides into straps E at lboth sides of the bottom flap D.l
By folding the side and bottom straps over the picture, and closing them by sliding the tongue into the outer strap E of the bottom flap, the picture-case is` entirely surrounded and protected, as shown in Fig. 2, so as to be readily carried in the pocket, or trunk, or otherwise in traveling. y
By opening the iiaps and folding them onto the rear side of the back part, with the tongue locking into the opposite strap of the bottom flap, the picture-case may be used as a stand by spreading the case and the hinged and folding back part apart till braced by a connecting-band, a, forbeing placed directly in selt supporting manner on abureau or other piece of furniture, as shown in Fig. 3.
By placing the folded-up back closely on the back of the case, the same may be hung by a ring, b, to the'wall, as represented in Fig. 4, forming thus a very neat and, convenient device for carrying photographs or other pictures in a safe and compact manner, and for eX- `hibiting them at any time by changing the inclosing parts to form a stand or a pictureframe. V
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. As a new article of manufacture, a pic ture-case composed of an ordinary frame with hinged back part, having inclosing flaps and tongue for folding entirely around the same, or separately at the back for incasing and eX- hibiting pictures, substantially as specified.
2. The folding bottom flap of the back part, provided with tongue locking-straps at both sides, for securin g the iiaps ofthe case at front or at the back, substantially as described and shown.
