Description
LOUIS A. KETTLE, OF PHILADELPHIA,
PATENT OFFICE.
PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF HIS RIGHT TO RUPERT KETTLE, OF MERRIDALE, ENGLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,005, dated June 1, 1875; application iiled January To all whom tt may concern.'
Be it known that I, LOUIS A. KETTLE, ofthe city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Paper Boxes; and I do hereby declare the 4followin g to be a clear and exact description of the nature thereof, sufficient to enable others skilled in the art to which myinvention appertains to fully understand, make, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a top View of the box partly opened. Fig. 2 is an end view thereof. Fig. 3 is a transverse section in line x w, Fig. l. Fig. 4 is a transverse section of the lid enlarged, line y y, Fig. l.
Similar letters of' reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists in a paper box having a paper lid whose sides are formed with channels, which slide on inwardly-projecting rims at the top of the body ofthe box.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the body of the box, which is constructed of paper in any well-known form and manner. On opposite sides of the top of the body there are formed or secured rims B B, which project inwardly, and extend somewhat above the top edge of the body. The lid C is a at piece or sheet, formed with channels D, which extend on opposite sides of' the length of the lid.
These channels are formed by interposing` bef wise secured together, the sides of the pieces a a are separated, thus leaving the channels D.
The lid is applied to one end of the box by bringing the channels D in line with the rims B, so that the latter will enter the channels. Then slide the lid toward the other end of the body, and it is connected thereto, and nicely covers the same.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The paper lid G, formed of the outer pieces a a, with the interposed narrow piece b, in combination with the paper body A, formed with inwardly-projecting rims B, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
L. A. KETTLE.
