ADJUSTABLE AE1'f iftvrrrrou.
Application led September 5, 1925.
The invention relates to adjustable partitions for compartments, particularly to partitions to be used in the drawers of desks of metal construction.
The object of the invention is to provide a compartment with an adjustable partition which is simple in construction and may be readily inserted in and removed from the drawer.
Other objects will appear from the following description, reference being made to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a vertical cross sectional view of a drawer with the partitions therein taken on the plane represented by the line 1-1 of Fig. 2;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of a drawer having several of the adjustable partitions inserted therein, and is partly broken away to more clearly show one of these partitions; and
Figure 3 is a detailed horizontal cross sectional view taken on the plane represented by the lines 3 3 of Fig. 1.
The drawer shown is of conventional metal construction comprising sides 10, bottom 11, front end 12 and rear end 18. The drawer may be supported for slidable movement by the guides 14 secured tov the sides.
The partition is composed of single sheet 15y which is bent back on itself at its center to form a rounded top edge 15a, as shown in Fig. 2. Spot-welded between the sides of the partition at one end isan end bar 16, havin'g a pair of projecting lugs 16a which are adapted to fit in holes 17 formed in the side of the drawer. Near the other end of the partition a blank separator 18 is spot-welded between the sides of the partition. An adjustable end 19 having a pair of lugs 2O adapted toproject through corresponding holes in the sides of the drawer, has horizontal'slots 21 formed therein. This adjustable 'end 19 is slidable into the space between the sides of the partition, being supported by the rivets 22 fixed in the partition and which pass through the slots 21. A semi-elliptic spring '23, at its center engaging a notch 24 in the adjustable end 19, and having its rounded ends sliding on the edge of the blank 18, tends to keep the adjustable bar 19 in its outward position, as shown in Fig. 1.
To remove the partition from the drawer it is merely necessary to move the .partition Serial No. 54,626.
slightly to the right against the pressure of l spaced apertures in the sides thereof, a
double walled partition member having lugs fixed at one end and adapted to project through the apertures in one side, a bar slidable between the walls of said partition member and having lugs adapted to roject into apertures in the other side, an resilient means tending to hold the slidable bar in engagement with the side of the drawer.
2. The combination of a compartment having spaced holes in its sides, a doublewalled partition having lugs fixed at one end adapted to engage said holes in one side lugs slidably mounted between the walls 'at the other end of said partition, and resilient meansv urging said last mentioned lugs outwardly into the holes in the other side.
8. The combination of a compartment having spaced holes in its sides, a double walled partition sheetshorter than the width of the compartmentv and having` at one end projections adapted to register with the holes in one side of the compartment, a bar slidably mounted between the walls at the other end and projecting therefrom, said bar having lugs adapted to, engage the holes in the side of the compartment, and resilient means to maintain said bar in its outward position.
4. An adjustable partition comprising a single sheet bent back on itself to form a space between its sides, an end piece secured in said space at one end of the partition and having lugs projecting from said end, a blank separator secured in said space near the other end, a bar slidable into said space at the last mentioned end and having projecting lugs, said bar having slots therein engaging guiding means secured to the sides of the partition, and resilient means engaging said blank separator and tending to hold said end bai in its outward projeotedposition. f
5. An adjustable partitionscomprising a sheet having ixed projections` at one end, a. bar having slots therein and projections thereon, rivets freely passing through said slots and secured to said sheet at its other end, a blank fixed to said sheet in parallel relation to said bar, and a semi-elliptic spring Compressed between said bar and 10 said blank .and having its `Center engagingl and held in position by :i notch in .said bar. In Witness Whereoi hereuntersubsoribe my name this 1st day of September, 1925.
