Description

U NITED STATES PATENT QFIGE.
CHARLES L. HOLLAND, OF IPSWICH, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAUNDRV-POUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 63.869, dated June 1, 1875; application filed December 8, 1874. V
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES L. HOLLAND, of Ipswich, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Laundry-Polish and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improved laundry-polish that is to be mixed with ordinary starch, for the purpose of obtaining a handsome polish on'ironed shirt-bosoms, cuffs, collars, or similar articles.
This my improved laundry-polish. is composed of the following ingredients, in the followingquantities, to wit: One pound of starchfiour, one pound of a strong solution of gumarabic, and two ounces of glycerine are mixed together in the following manner. viz: I add to the gumarabic the above q uant-ity of glycerine, and when these two are mixed well together I add the starch-flour and mix it thoroughly with the solution of gum-arabic and glycerine,
after which the whole is dried to a powder, and is then ready to be mixed with the starch, whether the latter is used hot or cold. The
addition of the glycerine prevents the iron from sticking to the garment that is to be ironed and polished.
By the use of this my improved laundrypolish I am able to obtain, without much labor, a very fine polished surface of the garments that are treated with this compound added to the ordinary starch.
What I wish to secure by Letters Patent, and claim, is-
The herein-described laundry-polish, composed of starch-flour, gum-arabio, and glycerine, in the proportions and in the manner herein set forth. I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention Ihave affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES L. HOLLAND.
