Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MELISSA A. MARNEY, OF TROY, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN STARC H-POLISHES FOR LINEN.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,104, dated December 22, 1874 application filed June 25, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, MELISSA A. MARNEY, of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer, State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Linen-Polishes, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which my invention appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to that class of linenpolishes which are composed in part of starch, and consists of a novel combination of ingredients, as hereinafter more fully setforth, by which a very cheap, simple, and effective article of this character is produced.
To prepare my improved polish the followin g formula should be observed:
Take onehalf pound of starch, one-half an ounce of white castile-soap, one-half an ounce of parafine, one quarter of an ounce of borax, and one eighth of an ounce of White wax. Mix the starch with cold Water until it is dissolved and free from lumps; then add boiling water, stirring briskly until the compound is reduced to the consistency of cream, after which add the other ingredients, and stir until all are thoroughly dissolved and incorporated.
After the linen is ironed, moisten a sponge with the polish and apply, using care to dampen the entire surface, after which polish with a moderately hot smoothing-iron, using the front of the iron only. A larger or smaller quantity of some of the ingredients may he used Without departing from the spirit of my invention, but I prefer to employ the quantities given, having found by long experience that these proportions produce the bestresnlts.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- The linen-polish described, consisting ot the ingredients in the proportions and compounded in the manner set forth and specified.
MELISSA A. MARNEY.
