` Application filed April 6, 1926. Serial No. 100,105.
' ,This invention relatesto a floor polishing machine and `has-for its primary object to provide such a device that may be readily' moved overthe Hoor surface by hand, the saine including arotary polishing brush that is driven by an electric motor supported upon the frame of the machine i-n order that the floor will be highly polished during said movement.,
A further object of the invention 1s yto provide a floor polishing machine of this v character wherein the brushv carrying frame is pivotally mounted upon the'base of the l .machine in order that thesame may raise and lower with respect thereto for compensating for the uneven'surfaces of a floor.
Other objects will become apparent as the nature ofthe invention is better understood, the same comprising the novel form, c'ombination and. arrangementof parts hereinaft-er more fully described shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing wherein like reference charactersv indicate corresponding parts throughout' the various views:
Figure 1 is a side Velevation of a floor pol'- ishing machine constructedv in accordance with the presentinvention..
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof. Figure 3 is a transverse section through the brush carrying ends of the machinefor constitutes more clearly disclosing a protecting hood' for the top of the brush for preventing particles ofdirt, oil, and the like from being thrown upwardly during the rotation of the brush, and Y s Figuret is an enlarged perspective of the motor carriage of the machine.
Now having particular reference to. the drawing, my novelliooiiV polishing machine of substantially rectangular shape that is formed at its side and rear edges with a vertical flange 6 within which is 'arranged' a high speed electric motor 7 that is secured to the'carriage Vby bolts orother attaching` f means Y edge thereof'is a roller' caster 8 while extendj ing beneath the carriageat its forward "end l is an axle 9 upon the opposite ends of whichV Depending from the carriage 5 at the rear are mounted supporting wheels 10-"10,l said caster and said wheels obviously.' ermitting the carriageto be readily moved romv place to place through medium of an polishing brush 23.' @ne the brushy roller extends through its `respec-` the provision. lof a carriage 5' operating y handle 11, fragmentarily disclosed 'in lFigures 1 and 2, that is pivotally secured to an I is disposed a rod 15 that is secured in posi-l tion by reason of metallic plates klli-16 that are arranged thereacross and secured at their opposite ends to the block at' opposite sides of the groove, Figures'2 and 4;.
The machine furthery constitutes the provision of a rectangular shaped brush carry- 'i f l,63i8,59l l 'a transversely ex?l ing frame 17 at 'the forward'end offthc carriage 5, the length thereof beingl atV right angles to the length of the carriage as clearly shown Vin Figure 2. VFormed integrally with the rear bar of this frame is apairof` spaced rearwardly eigtending arms 18e-18 that are formed with openings adjacent their forward ends for receiving the oppo'H f siteprojecting ends of the rod 15 secured vwithin the block 13 of said carriage 5 in order that the frame may-swing upon thef Y carriage Vin the manner hereinafter more fully described.
Said brushl frame is normally maintained in a position horizontally with respectv to .the carriage through medium of coil springs 19-'19 that are anchored to the ends of thev armsY 18-18 and the Y kadjacent vsides of the carriage respectively. Y
upon Vthe opposite side bars of the brush frame are of the pintles` 'of f Journaled within roller bearings 20-,20
pintles 21-21 vupon the opposite `ends of the central roller 22 of arotary 'floor tive bearings and is equipped with a' grooved pulley 24'to have trained trained around a smaller pulley 26 upon the therearound a belt 2 5 that extends rearwardly and is in turn adjacent end of thearmature shaft of` said motor 7.
For Vpreventing particles ofwar;7 dirt,`or
the like from-flying upwardly' duringl the operation of the deviceg there is Vprovided the-brush'as `more clearlyjshown'inthe sectional'view of FigureV shield adapted to rest or be suitably secured 3, the'edge ofthe 1.1".
