i cUsrInoR CONTAINER.
i v`Application filed yITovember The main object of this invention is to provide a sanitary container for spittle which is constructed in such manner that the container is kept in sealed condition when not used so that flies and other bacteria carrying insects will not be able to come in contact with the spittle.
Another object of theinvention is to provide a cuspidor with hinged covers which normally close the open end of the cuspidor, keeping it in sealed condition, and which are lifted to open position by the thrusting ot a foot upon a lever extending from the side of the cuspidor.
The above vand other objects will become a parent in the 'description below, in which cliaracters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawing.
Referring briefly to the drawing, Figure l is a longitudinal sectional elevational View thru the cuspidor container, illustrating the coverI opening mechanism.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary top plan view of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional elevational view of the footlever and cover operating bar.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral indicates a circular plate which 30 forms the bottom of the cuspidor or container. Said bottom is bounded by an encircling wall 11 which at its upper end isv bent inwardly to form a 'down-turned ledge 12. The upper -edge of the encircling wall 11 is reenforced by a circular wire 13 which at two diametrically opposite positions isA straightened as shown at 14 to vform hinge pins for sleeves 15. These sleeves are attached to semi-circular dished-out cover members 16 and 17 which are reenforced across their diametral edges by rods 18. Relatively short levers 19 which are integral with the sleeves extend angularly downwardtherefrom. The ends of these levers 19 are pivotally connected to the arms 2O and 21 of a U-shapedbar, said arms being connected at their lower ends by a rod 22. Intermediate the depth of the chamberin the cuspidor, a false bottom 23 is located.
the bottom 10 suiiiciently to 'form an upper compartment 24 and a lower compartment' 25. The upper compartment is adapted to receive a glass or porcelainl annular container serving as a receptacle for spittle. The bar 22 connecting the lower ends of This false bottom is raised a distance aboveY 5, leze.`v serial No. 146,300.
ywhich lifts this bar 22 upwardly to rotate thecover members 16 and 17 is also locked U0 in this compartment. The relatively long plate 26 serving as a foot lever istrunnioned upon an upright ridge 27. Pins 28 are locked on `both sides of this ridge and position the foot plate so that -it does not slide 05 upon said ridge.l The short end of the foot lever 26 supports the bar 22 upon which the latter is seated. The opposite longer end of the foot lever. 26 extends outwardly thru an opening 29 in the wall 11 of the encircling 70 member and projects a suflicient distance to permit the forepart of the foot to be placed upon said lever.
The device is adapted to serve as a container for a removable cuspidor when the latter is not in use. In using the cuspidor for the reception of spittle, the covers 16y yand 17 must first be raised to the open position shown by broken lines in Figure 1. vIn vorder to open the doors, the foot is placed 9 upon the lever 26 which normally extends outwardly from the container in angular position and said vlever is then depressed. As the bar 22 is seated upon the inner shorter end of this lever, the latter is raised, eXtend- 55 ing the arms 20 and 21 upwardly, thereby rotating the short levers 19, which being attached rigidly to the doors 16 and 17 open the latter and permit the cuspidor to be eX- posed.
It is to be noted that certain changes in form and construction may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of Y the invention.
I claim 1. In a cuspidor container, a bottom andA an encircling wall, a false bottom above the first-named bottom, hinged covers normally closing said container, a U-shaped member having a cross bar and vertical arms, said vertical arms being *pivotally` connected to said covers, and foot operated means forv raising said connecting bar and opening said covers. Y Y
2. In a cuspiclor container, a bottom and an encircling wall, a false bottoml above the first-named bottom, hinged covers normally closing said container, a U-shaped member having a cross bar and vertical arms, said vertical arms being pivotally vconnected to said covers, relatively short levers rigid and projecting angularlyk downward from said covers, said arms being Connected to said levers, and foot operated means for raising said bars.
3. In a euspidor Container, a bottom and an encircling Wall, a false bottom above the lirst-named bottom, hinged covers normally closing said container, a U-sliaped member having a cross bar and vertical arms, said vertical arms being pivotally Connected to 10 said covers, relatively short levers rigid and projecting angularly downward from said covers, said arms being connected to said levers, a foot plate supported intermediate its length, a ridge supporting said foot plate intermediate its length, pins on said oot plate positioning the latter, said plate extending outwardly from said container.
In testimony whereof I afx my signature.
FRANK HUSS.
