T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
zen of Poland, residing at 1462 Reynolds St, Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hall Utensils, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has as its object the provision of a device for receiving umbrellas, canes and the like so that the same are supported vertically within a space.
A further object is to provide a pan for draining umbrellas, and,
A still further object is to provide means whereby the device may be dismounted, permitting the drainage cup or pan to be removed at any desired time.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 1-1 of Fig. 3 through the center of a hall utensil made in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view of the same, and
Fig. 3 is a top plan view showing the assembled structure.
Referring to the drawings in detail, a cylinder 10 is shown to constitute the base of the apparatus, the same being provided with an imperforate bottom 11, supported upon a plurality of feet 12, the cylinder having at its open top a number of inwardly extending flanged elements 1 1, while therebelow is an inner band or ring 15, extending interj acent to the walls 10.
Resting upon the ring 15, is the outturned edge 16 of a concave cup 17, notched at the edges so it can be removed or replaced with Specification of Letters Patent. I 7, Patented Aug, 3, 192( Application filed June 18, 19195 SeriaINo. 305,043. I
tend upward from the plate 18 through the tube, the rod 22 having set in its lower end a transverse pin 24, adapted to pass through the lateral recesses 21, while the rod itself is engaged in the central opening 20.
Formed with the rod 22 is a head 25, abutting against which are the coils of a spring 26, its lower end resting in the bottom of a 'recess27, formed in the upper end of the tube 23, the efliect of the spring being to raise the rod 22 within the tube.
Also extending outward from the central opening 20, are slots 28 which the pin 24 may engage by properly manipulating the handle 25 so that the tube 23 may be rigidly ailixed to the upper surface of the plate 18.
Engaged with the exterior of the tube 23 are a plurality of frame elements 29, the same radiating outward and being secured to a circular ring 30, other similar frame elements 31, being formed with inturned terminals 82, adapted to engage with the upper end of the cylinder 10 so as to steady and support the tube and rod inclosed therein. The outer frame elements 29 and 31 are supported in place by a plurality of curved angularly disposed elements 33 and 34 as best shown in Fig. 1.
From the foregoing it will be seen that whenever it may be desired to empty the contents of the cup 17 the same may be removed by properly manipulating the knob 25, releasing the rod 22 from the plate 18 so that the entire superstructure may be removed, whereupon by partially rotating the plate 18 it may be raised and the pan 17 removed in an obvious manner.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a' device of the class described, the combination with a cylindrical base having imperforate walls, and means for supporting said base, of a perforate plate removably engaged in the upper portion of said base, a pan disposed therebelow, means for supporting said pan within said base, a rod removably engageable within said plate, a tube surrounding said rod, spring actuated means for holding said spring rod in a raised position, and a plurality of brace elements engaged with said tube, said brace elements being engageable with the marginal edge of said base.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a cylindrical base, an
angular ring set therein, a cup adapted to rest upon said ring, a plate disposable over said cup and means for confining said plate Within said base, of a rod having means in its lower end for removably engaging with a central aperture formed in said plate, a 7
tube surrounding said rod, means for nor mally holding said rod in engagement with signature.
