UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EVALD E. STURK, OF ALTADENA', CALIFORNIA.
HOLDER FOR TUBES OF TOOTH PASTE, SHAVING CREAM, ID THE LIKE.
Application filed April 25, 1925. Serial No. 25,791.
This invention has for one of its objects the provision of a novel, simple and inexpensive holder for tubes of tooth paste or shaving cream, tooth brushes, shaving brushes and safety razors.
A further object of the invention-is the provision of a holder of the character stated which shall include means by which the tooth paste or shaving cream-can be readily expressed from the tube without removing the latter from the holder..
A further object of the invention is the.
provision of a holder of the'character stated which shall includemeans by which the discharge opening of the tubeican be closed to prevent the casual displacement of the con-- tents of the tube and to prevent air from contacting with and hardening the contents adjacent the discharge opening.
The foregoing and other objects are attained by the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimedfand illustrated in the.
' ing taken on the plane indicated by the line 55 of Figure 1, and
Figure 6 is a detail sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line 66 of -Figure 1..
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in thefollowing description, and designated in the several views of the accompanying drawing, by similar reference characters.
The holder comprises a receptacle having a back 1, sides 2, a bottom 3, and a top 4, the front side of the receptacle being fully open. The back 1 extends above and below the receptacle as indicated at 5 and 6-, respectively The upper extensionb which is Y preferab y of circular formation is provided for the purpose of ornamentation, and if desired advertising matter may be embossed, printed or otherwise applied thereto. The
4 are formed from a single blank of sheet 7 metal, or other suitable material such, for instance, as porcelain, portions 3 and 3 of which are overlapped and secured together by rivets 8 and 9 to provide the bottom 3. The securing of the portions 3 and 3" together maintains thesides 2 in proper position withresp'eet to each other and the back 1, and said portions form integral extensions of the sides. The back 1 and extension 6 are provlded with openings 10 to permit the holder to be secured to a Wall or other support by nails 11 or thelike.
A tube 12 of tooth paste or shaving cream is adapted to be arranged within the receptacle in inverted position with its lower end contacting with the upper side of the bottom 3 and its threaded nozzle 13 extending through an opening 14 in the bottom. The lower end of the tube 12 is secured to the bottom 3 by means of a cap 15 which ismounted on the nozzle 13 and contacts with the under side of the bottom and which is provlded with an opening 16 through which the contents of the tube is discharged when the upper end thereof is rolled. A key 17 which is engaged with the upper end of the tube 12 and which is slidably and rotatably mounted in vertical slots 18 inthe sides 2, provides means by which the tube may be rolled when it is desiredto force a portion of its contents through the discharge 0 ening 16. The key 17 is provided with was ers 19 loosely mounted thereon'and contacting. with the outer surfaces of-the sides 2. The key 17 is provided atgne end with a finger grip 20 which contacts with bn'e of"the" washers 19 and at the other end thereof with projections 20 which contact with the other washer. The hand grip 20, projections 20 and washers 19 are adapted to prevent any endwise movement of the key with respect to the receptacle. The slots 18 extend throughthe upper edges of the sides 2, and
to prevent those portionsrofihe sides situated forwardly beyond the slots from having any lateral movement during the turning of the key the top 4 is provided with channeled side pieces or'flanges 21 which snugly receive the upper ends of the sides. The top 4 is pivoted to-the sides 2 by pins or rivets 22 and is provided with a 'finger piece 23 by means of which it may be moved into and out of closed position. As the top Lmay be' raised or moved into opened position, the tube 12 and key 17 may be readily applied to or removed from the receptacle.
To prevent the casual displacement of the contents of the tube 12 through the diseharge'opening 16 and'to prevent the hardening of the contents adjacent said opening, a closure 24 is provided. This part is carried by a lver 25 which is pivoted at'one end to the under side of the bottom 3 by the rivet 9 and which is provided at its front end with a finger piece 26. Theolosure 24 which is formed by depressin the lever 25 between the ends thereof, ears against the entire lower side of the cap-15, and to permit of its free movement into 7 closed position the lower end thereof is charge the ,contents thereof will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to whic the invention appertains. Due to the construction of each, the to 4 and the lever 25 and the parts associated therewith, may be readily made from blanks of sheet metal. While I have described and illustrated the device which I nowconsider to be the best embodiment of. the" invention, I desire to have it understood that the device shownis merely illustrative, and that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope ofthe invention asclaimed.
What is claimed is A holder of the character set' forth, comprising a receptacle fully open at thefront and provided in its bottom with an openin and in its sides with slots extending throu -the upper ends thereof, a top pivoted to t e sides and provided with channeled flanges embracing the upper ends of the sides so as to prevent relative lateral movement of those portions of the sides located forwardly and rearwardly beyond the slots, a closure pivoted to the underside of the bottom, and
a tube winding key slidably and rotatably mounted in the slots.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
