Application filed August 9, 1926. Serial Nb. 128,160.
Our invention relates to frocks and one b180l3 of the lnventlon is to nrovrde a frock with detachable sleeves and collar. which can be easily removed when it is desired to wear the frock without these parts. I
A further ob ect is to form the sleeves and the collar in such manner that they can be held in position upon the frock without hooks, buttons, or like fastening devices.
Another object is to'provide a. frock with a minimum number of seams in order to reduce the time and labor required in cutting and sewing the differentpartstogether and also to reducethe chances of ripping.
In order that the invention may be fully understood reference will now be had to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows one form of the garment.
Fig. 2 is aside elevation of the garment.
,Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the garment.
Fig.4 is an enlarged fragmentary section on line l-t of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a detail of one of thedetachable sleeves. I y
Fig. 6 is a front elevation of amodified form of garment.
Fig. 7 is a rear elevation of the modified form of garment.
Fig. 8 is a diagram showin how thedifferent parts of the modified form of garment are cut out from the material from which the garment is made. I
In said drawing,' 2 designates a panel forming the front portion of the garment. 4t designates a panel forming the rear 6 and the sides 8 of the garment. The panels 2 and a are preferably cut from onepiece of material which is'folded upon itself inter mediate its ends and has neck and arm openings 3 and 5, respectively. The longitudinal margins of the panels 2 and lmay be ad vantageously secured together with tape v braid, or other suitable material 10 and for the purpose of ornamentation strips 12 and 1 1, preferably of the same material as the material 10 are secured, as by stitching, to
the front and rear panels. The front panel 2 is preferably provided with pocketslG, which maybe advantageously fastened as by stitching tosaid panel by thetape 10 and 12. I
17 designates a pair of ties which may be advantageously secured to the panel 1 by the tape 10 and when tied togetherserve to draw the intermediate portion of the garment snugly about the waist of'the wearer.
and 32, respectively.
'18 designates a pair of detachable sleeves each of which has an extension 20 at its upper portion to it within the respective arm opening 5, as more "clearly shown by 1. Each sleeve 18 is provided at its lower portion with a flange 22 adapted to engage the interior of the garment adjacent to the respective arm opening 5. The extension 20 of each sleeve 18 is provided with a flange 24 adapted to engage over the exterior of the garment adjacent to'the neck opening 3. The upper and lower mar.- gins of each sleeve are preferably trimmed and reinforced with tape 26 and 28, respec' tively, as shown on the drawings. The margins of the flanges 22 and2 l'arealso preferably trimmed and reinforced with tape By providing the detachable sleeves 18 with the flanges 22 and 24 as above described it is apparent that when said flanges are caused to engage the interior and expiece seams under the arms are not necessary and hence the common annoyance from seams ripping under the arms is avoided.
In the modifiedform of garment disclosed by Figs. 6 and 7 the parts are formed in suh stantially the same manner as in the form disclosed by Figs. 1. 2 and 3 as is evidenced by,correspending reference characters with exponents a. the chief differences being that instead of having the panels 2 and 4;? formed from one piece of goods folded upon itself the goods are cut to form two separate panels and a yoke 4:0 is cut from the front panel 2 and sewed to said upper portion and the upper portion of the panel {t l Another difl'erence resides in providing the arm openings with culls 42. The pockets 16. the ties 17 and the flanges 2 1 are formed from thematerial left from the length of goods from which the panels 2* and 4 are cut, so that there'will be but little waste of mate- 1ial.- Likewise in the preferred form the pockets 16, the ties 117 and the flanges 2% may be ent from the material left from the piece of goods from which the united panels 2 and i are cut.
Having thns'described our invention, what We claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A garment having neck and arm openings, detachable sleeves having extensions at their upper portions to project into said arm openings, a retaining element fixed to the under portion of each sleeve and adapted to engage the interior of the garment adjacent to the respective arm openings, and retaining elements secured to the sleeve e2;-
tensions and ada Jted to n a e over the ex terior of the garment adjacent the neck open ing and form a collar.
In testimony whereof We a'llix our signatures.
