DISPLAYING DEVICE.

Application filed January 28, 1927. Serial No. 164,290.

This invention relates to improvements in display devices, and has particular reference to a bracket for displaying signs, such as ice cards and the like, which are displayed at certain times and at other times so moved as to be inconspicuous.

Another object is to produce a device of this character which may be attached to any building or other support so as to hold the sign in one of several positions.

Another object of this invention is to produce a device of this character which is neat in appearance, and one which will not detract from any object upon which it is placed.

A further object is to produce a device of this character which is economical to manufacture.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent durmg the course of the following description.

It has been common to employ cards for indicating a purchasers desire, such as ice cards which are placed against a window or hung upon a building in one of several positions, the position in which the card is hung indicating the quantity of material desired. These cards heretofore have usually been perforated so as to be placed over a nail or other hook, with the result that the wind very quickly destroys the cards, or blows them away, which is very unsatisfactor.

I have therefore deviced a bracket which may be attached to a building, which bracket will have a swinging member upon which a card ma be supported in such a manner that it may e rotated to various positions and, I have further provided means for swinging the card bearing arm on a vertical pivot so as to display the fiat edge or back of the card, as the case may be.

In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 indicates a support such as a porch post, to which my bracket is secured. This bracket comprises an upright Gwhich contacts the post 5 and is held thereto as by screws 7 This upright obviously might be secured to the support in any other convenient manner.

A rectangular brace 8 secured to the upright 7 serves to support an outwardly extending horizontal member 9. This horizontal member is recessed so that a slider 11 may be housed therein. The slider has an end 12 which projects through the horizontal member and is adapted to enter a socket 155 formed in one end of the swinging member lat which is pivotally supported upon a pivot bolt 16 carried by plates 17 and 18 which are secured to the horizontal member 9. This swinging member also has sockets 19 and 21 formed in its sides so as to receive the end 12 of the slider 11 as will be later described.

A removable card bearing arm 22 is carried in the end of the swinging member, which arm is provided with a vertical slot within which a card 23 may be positioned. A spring 24 surrounds one end of the slider in such a manner as to normally maintain the end 12 in contact with the swinging member except when retracted through the use of the thumb piece 26.

Assuming that the device is attached to a building as indicated in Figures I and II and it is desired to secure one hundred pounds of ice, the card is placed in the arm 22 in the position shown in Figure I. If the swinging member is moved to the full line position of Figure II, it will be apparent that the iceman may observe the customers desire while at a considerable distance away from the house upon which the device is secured, that is providing he is proceeding in a direction toward the top of the sheet of this drawing.

Should the iceman be proceeding in the opposite direction, it would be merely matter of lifting the card out of the arm and turning it around.

When the iceman does not follow a regular route'and may approach the house from either direction, the swinging member and its arm may be moved to the position A as shown in dotted lines in Figure II. At this time, the face of the card will be exposed, but will be parallel with the street and therefore the iceman may observe the customers desires when he arrives in frontof the house.

When the swinging member and its arm are swung to the position B as: shown in dotted lines in Figure II, it will be apparent that the back of the .card will he presented to the icei'nan and'lie will therefore see that the customer does not desire any iee. It is of course understood that the arm- 22 may he removed from the swinging member during the winter season and can be replaced again when desired.
