' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

tures of construction, and inthe combina-.
' tion and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter claimed.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a tank. showing my device embodied thereon.
Figure 2 is a horizontal transverse section there'through taken Substantially on the line :?:2 of.Figure 1.
Figure 3 is ,a fragmentary elevation of the tank, taken at right angles to that shown in Figure 1. and Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of the slide member. s Referring to the drawing in detail, it. will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes the usual glass cylinder having the top head 6 and the bottom head 7 held in place by bolts 8. As is usual, a wire mesh guard9 is disposed about the glass cylinder 5. Between two of the bolts 8 there is mounted in parallelism therewith a strip 10, which is secured in any suitable manner to the lower head 7 and rises therefrom and is offset outwardly at the top head 6, and then terminates in an upwardly disposed extension 11, which 15 screwed or otherwise held as at 12 to the top head. This strip 10 is marked with suitable indicla to measure the gasoline as it is withdrawn from the tank as will be quite apparent from an inspection of the drawing. The extension 11 is used to hold suitable indicia indicative of the price of the gasoline. An arcuate bar 14 terminates in 'semi-- more fully described and 19 27.- Seria1 no. 180,322.
cylindrical fingers 15 adapted to slide along t 0 bolts 8, disposed adjacent the strip 10.
Intermediate the ends of the bar 14 there rises from the upper edge integrally therewith, an extension 15 from one end of which merges as overhanging portion 16, The portions 15 and 16 are adapted to straddle the strip 10 as is indicated to advantage in Figure 3. This slide has a frictional engage ment with the bolts 8 and the strip 10 and maybe held in any suitable adjustable position. so that it may indicate when a suitable or desired amount of gasoline has been withdrawn from the tank, thus lending accuracy to the device.
The device is exceedingly simple and the slideis very easily adjustable and therefore produces a thoroughly reliable and eflicient indicating mechanism for the purpose desired- The present embodimentof the invention has been disclosed iii detail merely by way of example, since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.v It
will be apparent that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or'scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed, or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention,
what I claim as new is:.
In combination, a visible gasoline tank including-a pair of spaced parallel bolts, a
strip disposed between the bolts, means for holding the strip'in place, a slide compris ing an arcuate bar having curved fingers fixed to engage with the bolt and from its upper edge at the center merging therefrom an extension, one end of which merges into an overlapping portion, said extension and overlapping portion straddling the strip.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
WILLIAM E. MITCHELL.
