Application fuea July so, 192e. s'eriai Nb. masse.
vThe present invention, in its broad aspect? 'relates to inipioveinents :in attachments for cleaning implements, and particularly fountain brushes and the like, and is designed to; provide an Aadjustable wiping device, or squeefree` which may be applied with facility to a brush or the like having a suitable head. More particularly it is my purposefto pro? vide a wiper or squeegee which may be eX- tende'd to tit various widths of windows, and to this end I have devised unique and novel flexible or resilient supports or brackets between which an extensible and sectional squeegee or wiper carrying frame is mounted for ready adjustment; said tiexibleor resil ient brackets being?,` adapted to* flex to accominod'ate adjustments iii thediineiisions of t e fra ine. i
lilith the abovegeneral objects in View and others that will appear as the natureof the invention is better understood, the saine consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts ,hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying. drawing and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing forming a part of this applicationfand in which like designating characters refer to corresponding jparts throughoutI the several views,
Fig. 1 is a cross-sectional view through the brush and squeegee, illustrating the position of the squeegee when in its operative and inoperative conditions;
Fig. 2-is an elevational top view of the brush and the squeegee when the latter is in operative position; and
l*1 3 is an .elevational front view of the squeegee. Y
Referring to the drawing in detail, there is shown the brush head withv a detachable handle 11 positioned at an angle in respect of said headV 10. Said handle 11 is hollow and has a bore 12 which connects with a longitudinal bore 13 niade in the brush head 10. Said bore 13 through longitudinal slit 141 communicates with bristles 15 positioned upon the front face of the head 10. Handle 11 at its other end, not shown iii the drawing, is adapted to receive water hose for supplyingl water to the bristles 15 through bore 12 andV 13 and slit 14.
Adapted to be positioned in the ends of brush head 1() are threaded. pins or bolts` 16 fer pivoting thereupon resilient plates 1T y l. l' 4 providing bracketsqfor the squeegee hereinafter described.` Wing nuts 1`8receivable upon. saidbolt's 16 maintain the squeegee in rigid adjusted positionin respect of the `brush.
The outer lends of brackets 17 areoutuf'ardly rbent andprovide mounting. means for a frame comprising elongated plates19faiid 2(1),l respectively, `wli'ereat.. the latter are; i
riveted as at V21 and 22. Theouter-face of: plate `19;carriesa strip .23 n'iadev ofrubber any other fiexible material while theinner :"ce otpl'ate 2O carries a similar stripv 24, h of said strips extending beyond one p ofthe edges of plates 19.-and 2O andthe resulting narrowvstrip projecting beyond the edges of saidplates isadapted to engage the window pane forwiping oft the water drops therefrom. o p i j Said `plates 19 and 20.aiid cooperating strips 23` and 24 substantially intheir middle" portions" are provided with longitudinal slots- 19 and 20 for receiving.screws25 and26 for the purpose -of .permitting theeXtension Vof plates 19 and20 in respect of each other together with, their cooperating strips 23V and 2t, respectively. Yrlhe ends of said screws 25 and 26 receive wing nuts 27 and 28 hy means of which the two plates 19 and 2O and their respective strips 23 and'24 are tightened and heldin adjusted position.`
Fig. 2 in tull lines indicates thenorinal position of the plates 19 and 20, while the dotted lines indicate the longitudinal extended position of the two plates Vand their cooperating strips 23 and 2li, also showing the position of bracketsvl? 'when the two plates are eX- tended.
When the squeegee is not in. use the saine is swung towards the. handle 11 upon its pivot point lo', and held there in that position b v rieans of wing nuts 18, as shown on Fig. 1 in full lines. lVhen in that position the brush inay be used without interference inV any manner from the squeegee. Vlien the squeegee is required to be used, the Wing nuts 18 are loosened and the squeegee swung in the` opposite direction to assume the vpositionA illustrated by dotted lines on Fig; 1. Thereupon the lwing nuts are tightened and the squeegee is rigidly 'held in that-position- It will be apparent from the'hereinabove 'los description that the squeegee is adjustable vlongitudinallv of the brush head 10a`s well as transversely thereof.
llt)
While there is described herein a preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit andscope of the invention as claimed.
lVhat I claim as new is:
l. A device of the type described comprising an extensible frame formed of a plurality ot pla-tes each carrying a cleaning member, means for locking the plates in adjusted extended position, and a resilient supporting bracket member at each end of said frame to accommodate adjustments in the dimensions of the plates.
2. 'A .device of the type described comprising an extensible frame formed of a. plurality of plates each carrying a cleaning member, means for locking the plates in adjusted extended position, and a pair ot resilient supporting bracket members one attached at each of the respective ends ot the trame to acconimodate adjustments in the dimensions ot the plates.
3, A device otl the type described comprising a base, brackets arranged on the base, a plurality of extensible plates attached to and between the brackets, cleaning members carried by the plates, and means on the plates for holding the same in adjustably extended position, said brackets being resilient to ace; commodate elongations of the plates.
4. An attachment for a cleaning implement, comprising` brackets adapted to be pivotally arranged thereon, a plurality of extensible plates attached to and between the brackets, wiping means carried by the plates, and means on the plates for holding the saine in adjustably extended position, said brackets being yielding in one direction to automatically accommodate adjustments in the dimensions of the plates.
An attachment for a clcaninginiplement comprising a pair of 'resilient brackets pivoted upon said implement in relatively spaced relationship, an elongated plate carried by the outer end of each bracket, and a wiper carried by each plate, said plates overlapping and engaged tor relative longitudinal sliding movement, and means engaging the plates for securing said plates in adjustably extended positions relative to each other.
6. An attachment for a cleaning implement comprising a pair of elongated .yieldable brackets adapted to be e-xed toward and away from each other and each pivotally attached to the implement in relatively spaced l relationship, an elongated plate carried by each bracket and provided with a slot, a wiper carried by each plate, said plates being overlapjiing with their slots registering tor longitudinal relative sliding movement, and detachable means extending through the slots ofthe plates for securing said plates in adj ustably extended positions relative to each other. v
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
