vnm'rY-cAsE HINGE.
Application filed July 3,
This invention relates to vanity cases and particularly to an improved hinge therefor and has for an object to provide an improved part of the.
structure wherein the exterior 5 case is left smooth and even.
- Another object of the invention is to provide ,a hinge 1n which practically all of the parts are arranged interiorly of the casing.
A further object, more specifically, is to 4 provide a hinge formed intwo parts and pressed from the top and body of the case. In the accompanying drawing, f
" Figure 1- isia" perspective view of :ryanity case provided witha hinge. embodying the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional viewthrough Figure 1 on line 22, the same being on an enlarged scale. I a V Figure 3 is a a fragmentary perspective 24 view of part of the vanity case with a intle structure ready for receiving the I inge knuckle.- t
Figure 4 is a view of the structure shown in Figure 3 before the pintle has been formed into its completed shape.
Figure 5 is adetail fragmentary sectional view similar to the left hand portion of Figure 2 but shown on a greatly enlarged scale but illustrating more accurately the position of the various parts.
- Figure 6 is a fragmentary top plan View of part of the case shown in Figure 1, illustrating in a rather exaggerated way the flat conditi n of the hinge and associated parts.
1926. Serial No. 120,332.
'b Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates the body of the case, said body having an annular upstanding flange 2, which flange is provided with an offset portion 8 for receiving the lower part ofthe depending flange 4 of the cover or lid 5. The flange 2'is provided with four cuts 6 which permit the sections 7 and 8 to be bent into substantially arc-shaped formations whereby the completed pintle 9 is produced. The integral sectio s 10 and 11 are preferably pressed so as to flset the pintle 9 inwardly as shown in Figure 5, said offsetting being of approximately the thickness of flange 2. By reason of this construction, the knuckle 12 formed from an extension of 'flange 4 may be looped or bent inwardly for encircling the pintle 9 and the exposed portion of the hinge caused to be flush with the exterior surface of flange 2.
What I claim is: 55 A vanity case, comprisinga flanged body, the flange of the body having a cut out portion, and provided with an integral tubular pintle, Said pintle being of a length equal to the cut out portion, disposed therein inter mediate the depth thereof and oflset inwardly a distance equal to the thickness of said flange, and a flanged cap, the flange of the cap having at the edge an extension of a width equal to the said out out portion and 66 bent around said tubular pintle.
