CLOTHESPIN.
Application med Tune 4, 1928. 881181 No. 18,850.
clothes line, and in cold weat er freezing.
thereto, tending to shorten the -life of the clothes line, by reason of the frozen clothes being torn from the line upon removing..
For further comprehension of the invention, andof the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanyin drawing, and to the appended claim in w ich the various ynovel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Y PC
Referring to the drawing forming a may terial part of this disclosure Fig. l is a erspective view of applied to a c othes line.
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse `sectional view taken on the lline 3--3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary vertical longitudinal sectional view of a modified form of this invention.
j Fig. 5 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of a further modification of this invention.
The reference numeral 10 indicates a portion of a clothes line, to which the invention device is attached. ,The device is formed by side members 11 and 12, hingedly connected as at 13, by. a hinge having one of its memthe device bers, namely 14, secured to member 11 by screw 15, and the other member 16, secured to the member 12 by screw 17. The inner rear sides of the side members 11, 12 are formed with recesses 18, and a spring 19 has its ends abutting said recesses'18,'normally urging the rear ends of the member 11, 12 apart. ll2. are formed with meshing serrations 20 to actas gripping teeth for the clothes to be supported. An aperture 21, in the side members permits the device to 'be attached to a clothes line.
` In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the spring 19 has a sunkin portion 19?, abutted by screw 15 havin a pluralit of apertures 15" along its lengt engagea le by a slide ends of mem 'Ihe front ends of the members 11,
pin 22, mountediin member 11. By adjust- 'ing screw 15, the tension of spring 19 may be chan ed, and the screw 15 locked in its adjusts position by the slide pin 22. The recess 18 in member l1 'is deeper than the recess 18 in member 12, to accommodate the adjusted upper side of s ring 19.
In the modification s own in Fig. 5, side members 25, 26 are hin edly mounted as at 27, 28 respectively to e rear member 29. The rear member accommodates a button 30 having a depending rod -31 with an elongated aperture 32 engaged by a pin 33 depending from` the rear member 29. A springl 34 normally resses outwards on the rear hers 25, 26, urging the front ends together. Each member 25, 26 is provided with a projecting ton ue 35 adjacent the middle of spring 34, andg the end of rod 31. Pressing the button 30 in, causes the rod 31 to move tongues to swing the front ends of members 25, 26 open against the action of spring 34.
While I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein maybemade, I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise allering the arrangement of the correlated parts s without departing from the spirit or the lswipe of the ap ended claim.
aving thus escribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is A clothes in comprising forwardly an rearwardly isposed hinge elements, a pin pivot'aily connecting said hin e elements together, side members mounte on said hin e elements a spring disposed in recesses in tile rearwar ends of'` said side members for urging said rearward ends apart to force the forward ends thereof together,.and a screw disposed through 'registering openings in said rearwardly disposed hinge element and loo in the side member mounted thereon for securing said side member to said rearwardly ydisposed hinge element, the end of said screw being adapted to engage said spring for tensioning the latter to re ulatethe gripping ower of the forward en s of said side memrs; Y
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature. v
