My invention relates to garments for both old and young, and of both sexes, and more particularly to those garments especially adapted for children of tender age whereby said children may be able to fasten and unfasten the garment without the aidof a grown person.

It accordingly is an objectof my invention to provide a garment with a rear part having but one portion thereof associated with the back of said garment, said rear part being adaptcdto be raised or lowered in relation to said garment, said rear part being provided with a set of fasteners adapted to coact with complementary fasteners on the front of the garment so that said rear part may be detachably, secured to said garment, and when so secured mayhold said rear part in position irrespective of the position of the wearer.

Another object of my invention is to provide a novel form of garment in which a rear part has a channel associated therewith, said channel havingpositioned therein and stitched thereto at substantially the middle portion thereof, a belt formed of part elastic and inelastic portions, said stitches being coarse, so that when the elastic portion has become worn, said belt may be easily and expeditiously renewed.

, Ifdesired, it is also within the province of my invention to equip my garment with a'pair of pockets, at the front and side of said garment, each of which pockets may be provided with a reinforcing tab so that a fastener may be secured to each in order that said fasteners may not easily be torn therefrom, due to rough usage, or said pockets and tabs may be omitted, other reinforc ing means being substituted therefor;

A further object of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive means whereby an artistic. and attractive, yet withal a serviceable garment may be produced, which garment may beexpeditiously put on or removed by the wearer.

Further objects and advantages of my invention will become more apparent as the description thereof proceeds.

Describing my invention more in detail, as is well-known, children of tender age invariably require. mature aid when dressing or undressing, or in attending to their daily needs. I have thereforeproduced a novel form of garmentin which such children are able to take care of themselves without any portion 2 integral therewith, said lower portion'being provided with a rearpart l2 entirely free from the upper portion 1, as more particularly shown in Figs. 3 and at, said rear part having stitched to its upper portion a channel 3 adapted to have positioned therein and stitched thereto by coarse stitches 11 at substantially the middle por tion thereof a belt 4. Thecoarse stitches 11 are provided so that said belt 4 may be quickly and easily removed from said channel for reasons that will presently appear. Of course, it will be obvious that if desired the belt may be permanently secured to the channel and still be within the province of my invention.

As seen more particularly in Figs. 1 and 2, the garment may have stitched thereto a pair of pockets 10, preferably positioned as shown, which pockets may be equipped with tabs 9, either integral therewith or secured thereto in any preferred manner. I use these labs as a reintoreing means lor holding in place a button or other :tastcner 8, though the porltels and tabs may be omitted and other reinjl orcing means provided. Said pockets and labs however form an einbellishment' for the garment.

The belt i preferably comprises an elastic or resilient portion 'i', to each end of which is secured in: by sewing or other means an inelastic tab :5 equipped with a. fastener ti eoniplen'ientary to the Fastener in the present instan e being an ordinary button hole. it will be clear that other fasteners may be substituted for those shown and described.

It will also he understood that other means than the stitches ll may, be used instead, for detachably holding the belt 4% in place, and still remain within the province of my invention.

Said rear part being unconnected with the upper portion 1, a considerable play between the parts is permitted, avoiding en tirel the snapping: oil of buttons or other fasteners commonly associated with this form of garment, and also provides properly "for the growing of the child wearing said garment, since there is ample material underneath said rear part to accomn'iodate such growth.

In use. the rear part 12 is pulled up in position by means of the tabs 5, which may be easily reached. and said tabs are buttoned in place on the tliront oi" the garment. The unbuttoning oi the garment accomplished as easily as the buttoning, and the rear part; l2 may he (piichlr lowered, and all may he done b children oil a very tender age, this being a boon to the mothers ot said children.

\l'hile .l hare thus described my invention with great particularity, it will be. obvious that the same may be modilied throughouta,

wide range. 1 therefore do not propose to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described, but reserve the right in practice to malie any and all modilicataious thereol that fall within the scope of the apprnded claims.
