Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates the casing of the wall cabinet, which is imbedded in the wall 2 and is vertically disposed. The casing 1 is provided with a chamber 3, in which the mechanism and ironing` boards hereinafter set forth are disposed. if desired a closure may be provided for the cabinet, however the closure or door has been eliminated in the drawing to more clearly illustrate the device. Disposed within the chamber 3 and vertically slidable on oppositely disposed guide strips i is a carriage 5. The carriage 5 comprises vertically disposed side bars 6, in the channels 7 of which the guide strips 4 are reg ceived, and which bars 6 have their forward sid-es connected together by a horizontally disposed bar 8 and their rear sides connected by the reiativeiy wide bar 9 which is located above the bar 8 a distance equal to the thickness of the ironing board whereby when said ironing board is moved to a horizontal position on its hinging point 1l, as shown in Figure 2 the inner end 12 of the ironing board will engage the under side of the bar 9 and the bar 9 will thoroughly brace the ironing board during an ironing operation. rlhe ironing board 10 has its opposite sides adjacent the inner end thereof provided with recesses 13, which recesses, when the ironing board is in vertical position, receive the upper end the bars (3 as clearly shown in figures 1 and 23, therefore it will be seen that an ironing board of maximum width may be used as well as a carriage of maximum width, consequently a minimum size cabinet may be imbedded .in a wall.y The upper ends of the side bars 6 of the carriage have disposed therein spring pressed spherical balls 14, which balls coop/crate with recesses in the recessed portions 13 of the ironing board and form detents for holding the ironing board 10 in a vertical position and at the same time in a manner whereby the ironing board 10 may be moved to a horizontal position by simply grasping the rree end thereor and pulling the same outwardly. Connected to the upper ends of the side bars 6 at 16 are flexible members 17, which members extend upwardly and over pulleys 18 carried by the sides of the casing IDU 1 and terminate in conventional forms of weights 19, which weights are preferably sufliciently heavy to substantially counterbalance the carriage 5 and the ironing board carried thereby, thereby allowing the carriage and ironing board to be positioned at the desired elevation with the. minimum amount of power or effort on the partof the operator, and at the same time the weights prevent jamming of the carriage during the movement thereof by imparting an equal pull on the upper end of the carriage at opposite sides thereof.

Pivotally and slidably mounted on the pins 2O carried by the bar 9 are inwardly eX- tending locking levers 2l, which levers have their inner ends oppositely bevelled as at 22, whereby when the inner free ends of the levers 2l are forced upwardly by the inner end l2 of the ironing board l0 and the ironing board again moved to vertical position, the levers 2l will be compelled to break downwardly thereby preventing the levers from remaining in the groove 23 in the under side o f the bar 9. The pins 2O extend transversely through the bar 9, grooves 23 and elongated apertures 2la in the levers, therefore it will be seen. the levers may move longitudinally. It will be noted that when the levers 2l afre forced upwardly at their inner ends, before they are in alinement with each other, said levers will be forced outwardly into engagement with the guide strips 4l incident to the loose connections 2O and the engagement of their inner ends 22, and that the weight of the ironing board will maintain the jamming action above set forth. The pivoted ends 2l preferably engage the guide strips 4.

Hingedly connected at 24 to the upper end of thel bar 9 is a sleeve board 25, which sleeve 4 is adapted to be moved to a horizontal position as shown in Figure 2 when it is desired to use the same or to a vertical position as shown in Figure l, when it is not in use. To maintain the sleeve board 25 in ai horizontal plane, a hinged supporting leg 26 is provided, which leg is hinged at 27 to the underside of the board 25 and is adapted to engage with its free end the forward side of the bar 9 at the lower edge thereof, thereby supporting the sleeve board. The ironing board 10 prevents downward movement of the leg 26 during an ironing operation on the sleeve board 25. I/Vhen the sleeve. board 25 is in vertical position as shown in Figure l, it is held in said vertical position by the headed lug 28, which extends through an aperture 29 in the leg 26 adjacent its free end, therefore it will be seen that the sleeve board will be positively held in a vertical position within the casing l when not in use.

From the above it will be seen that an ironing board cabinetis provided in which is adjustably mounted a vertically disposed carriage, which carriage is held in various adjusted positions by means of cooperating loosely pivoted locking levers with which the ironing board cooperates when moved to a horizontal position. It will also be seen that means is provided for supporting the sleeve board in a horizontal or vertical position and said means is formed from a: single brac; ing leg.

The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is z- A cabinet ironing board comprising a casing having opposed vertical guide strips, a carriage slidably mounted on said strips, a board hinged adjacent one end of said carriage, means for locking'said carriage inA different positions comprising a pair of levers pivotally and slidably mounted at their outer ends on opposite edges of the carriage and adapted to be slid into engagement with said strips7 the inner ends of said levers being adapted to engage each other, said levers lying in the path of travel of the inner end of the ironing board whereby the board when moved to horizontal position forces said levers into locking engagement with the strips.
