This invention relates to improvements in a medicine cartridge and applicator therefor, by means of which a fluid medicament, disinfectant or cleansing agent may 'be quickly introduced into various cavities of the body. The object'of .the invention is to supply a. fluid medicament, disinfect-ant or cleansing agent in unit quantities 1n sealed containers so that the fluid will retain its purity during the commercial distribution thereof and while handling prior to use. Another object of the improvement is the provision of means for applying fluid without subjecting it to exposure before use.
These objects are accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanydrawings, in which 1 is an elevation of an appliance embodying the invention, the view being partially in section; and

The invention comprises a cartridge charged with fluid and an applicator in which the cartridge is placed and from which the liquid in the cartridge is expelled.
The cartridge 1 consists of a shell 2 having an integral head 3 at one end with a central orifice 4t therein and an external annular groove 5 adjacent its perimeter. The orifice 1 is closed by a removable patch 6 that is pasted on the head so as to cover the orifice.
The patch has a free tail 7 that affords a hold for the thumb and finger by which the patch may be removed. In the opposite end of the shell is a close fitting movable bottom 8 that serves initially to close the bot-tom of the cartridge so that the liquid 9 contained in the cartridge is confined therein, and subsequently functions as a piston When forced toward the head of the cartridge to expel the liquid content of the cartmovable tubular cap 11 having a central orifice 1-2 in its top, the shell having threaded connection with the body 1. Vithin the cap is a movable member 13 having a nozzle 14: that :projects through the orifice 12, and
upon the lower face of the member is an annular lip 15 concentric with said nozzle. To the bottom of the tubular body 10 is secured a removable tubular base 16 into which the body 10 extends partway, there being a space 17 between the lower end of the body and the bottom of the base.
.Vithin the body 10 is loosely positioned a hollow plunger. 18, the head '19 of which is closed, the bottom being open and provided with an external flange 20 that has play inthe space 17 as the plunger moves longitudinally in the body, which play is limited by the lower end of the body which obstructs upward movementof the' flange.
l i ithin the plunger 18 is an expansion spring 21 that acts oppositely against the head of the plunger :and the bottom of the base and tends to force the plungerup into the cap. On one side of the base is pivotally secured aspring actuated trigger 22, the head 23 of which projects through an opening 24: into the base and has engagement with the flange 20 on the plunger and holds said plunger in cocked position.
In utilizing the invention the cap is removed from the body and the plunger 18 is forced against the pressure of the spring until its flange is engaged by the triggerand is thus cocked. The patch 6 is then removed from the head of the cartridge and the cartridge is inserted into the cap so that the lip 15 of the member 13 is seated in the groove in the head of the cartridge, thus alining the orifice 4: in the cartridge with the bore of the nozzle. The cap is then replaced on the tubular body with the bottom 8 of the cartridge resting on the top of the plunger.
he liquid in the cartridge is applied by introducing the nozzle into the cavity, or part to be treated, and while held therein the trigger is manipulated so as to release the plunger which thereupon is forced by the pressure of the spring against the bottom 8 of the cartridge causing the bottom to move up into the shell of the cartridge so that the liquid in the cartridge is forcibly expelled out through the nozzle. The cap, is then removed and the exhausted cartridge ejected therefrom by thrusting the nozzle into the cap so that the shell is removed by the action of the member 13.
The applicator thus constructed may be eadily dismembered and cleansed as occasion may arise.
lVhat I claim is 1. In an appliance of the class described,
a cartridge for holding liquid and an ap-- plicator therefor, said cartridge having a grooved head With an orifice therein and a movable bottom in the opposite end operable to expel the liquid in the cartridge through said orifice, the applicator co1nprising a tubular body having a removable tubular cap at one end and a removable tubular base at the opposite end, said cap having a central orifice in its top; a member in the cap, having a nozzle that projects out through the orifice in the cap and having an annular lip for the groove of the cartridge operable to aline the cartridge With said nozzle; a spring actuated plunger in said body, having an external flange on its lower end; and a trigger in connection With said base engageable with said flange, said plunger having actuating relation With the bottom of said cartridge when released by said trigger.

In an appliance of the class described, a cartridge for holding liquid and an applicator therefor, said cartridge having a discharge orifice in its head and a movable bottom, said bottom being operable to expel the liquid in the cartridge through said orifice, said applicator comprising a tubular body having a removable cap at one end for the reception of the cartridge, a member movable in said cap having a nozzle projecting through said cap, the bore of said nozzle being alined with the orifice in said cartridge when said cartridge is positioned in said cap, and a plunger mechanism in said body operable to actuate the bottom of said cartridge to expel said liquid through said nozzle.

In an appliance or the class desoribed,a cartridge for holding liquid and an applicator therefor, said cartridge having an orifice in its nead end and a movable bottom in its opposite end, said bottom being operable to expel liquid contained in the cartridge out through the orifice, said applicator comprising a tubular receptacle for said cartridge, a nozzle member movable in said receptacle and having a bore alined With the orifice of said cartridge, and a plunger mechanism in removable connection with said receptacle operable to actuate the bottom of said cartridge and thereby expel the liquid from said cartridge through said nozzle member, said nozzle member being operable to expel said cartridge -from the receptacle after said plunger mechanism is removed.
