UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
FRANCIS A. PHILLIPPI, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PICTURE-FRAME HANGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,244, dated May 11, 1875; application filed March 19, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS A. PHILLIPPI, of the city of Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Frame- Hangers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 shows my device practically applied, and Fig. 2 a perspective of the hanger itself. i
The nature of my invention consists in the production of a new article of manufacture, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A represents the hanger, which is composed of the screw 1), collar 0, eyelet d, projection c, and rocker f. All may be cast in one piece, or the collar, which is provided with screwholes, may be cast separately and soldered in place, as seen in Fig. 2.
The advantages of thus constructing hangers for frames are, first, they relieve the cord from the strain or weight of the frame; second, they steady and aid in keeping the picture or frame in a right position; and, third, by the addition of the rocker or curved piece f, no damage is done to the wall.
The hangers are screwed into the frame, (one on each side,) as seen in Fig. 1 a cord is then passed through the eyes, and the picture or frame suspended as usual. (See Fig. 1.)
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The new article of manufacture herein described, consisting of screw 1), collar 0, eyelet (1, projection e, and rocker f, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention, I affix my signature in presence oftwo witnesses.
FRANCIS A. PHILLIPPI.
