'Gas BURNER.,
Application mea August 27, 192s seria-int. 131,945.v j
The present invention relates to improvements in gas `burners and particularly of that type'shown inthe-application tiled7 by me on April 27, i926, serial No; 104,961.1 f
, An important object ofthe invention is t'o improve upon the structurel by making the same more economical in use andin manufacture and to provide a structure of a knockdown nature, so that the parts may be readily and easily assembled or disassembled.
vWith the above and numerous other ob Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken Fig. t is a fragmentary longitudinal section through one end of the'burner'. Referring to the drawing in detail, it will vbe seen that the letter A denotes generally a drum which is formedrin two sections 5 and 6. The bottom section 5 includes a bottom wall 7, side walls 8 rising right angularly from and end walls 9. Theside walls are provided with outwardly rextending flanges 10. Theend walls 9 are providedl with semi-cylindrical collars 11. VThe top l section Gincludes a top wall 12 having upwardly convexed longitudinally extending Senn-cylindrical portions 14, one at each edge thereof. These semi-cylindrical portions 14 are provided'with transverse slots 15. The
semi-cylindrical portions 14 at their outer` edges merge into side walls 16 having anges 17 which are adapted to be engaged with flanges by bolts 18 or in any other suitable manner.
The top section also includes end walls 19 having semi-cylindrical collars 20 compleinentary to 'collars 11 for forming cylindrical collars to receive stuliing boxes 21. A pipe 22 extends through the stuthng boxes and longitudinally through the drum A and is provided within t-he drum A .witha pair of longitudinally'-extending slots 23 at the bottom thereof. The gas and air enters the sub-1y fstantially on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and
through the'slot 23 and. then`p`asses"up; wardly andjoutwardly tlirouglifthe slots. 15, at whichpoint 'it is burnt. f, v
yA drain opening 25 is provided centrally pipe *22"fr'om thereof, and' outlets i' y in the bott'oln 7." 'From Ytlfeabove` detailed.-
description, it will lbe seen thatv I provide a burner having the efficiency of the burner j disclosed iny lmy said-*pending application, but the structure 'of the present burnerpis capable of being easily assembled and disassembled in order that the interior of the ,drum may 'be' cleaned when desired in case it shouldbecome clogged up for any'reason.
The set screws prevent the pipe 22 from turning. 'l
The present structure allows the variousv parts to be castk and therefore enable :a
cheaper manufacture of the, device than in the structure shown in my pending applica-v tion.
It isY thought that the construction, utility, and. advantages of this improvement will now be clearly understood'by those skilled in this-art without a more detailed description thereof.y The present embodiment of #the invention has' been disclosed inv detail since in actual `practice it attains Ythef.fea'
tures of advant-agefenumerated as `desirable in the statement of the invention vand the'.
above description.
Apparently, numerous vchanges'in. the ldetails of construction and inthe combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted i to as do not depart from the spirit or scope of the invention as :hereinafter claimed.'v
Having thus described my inventionwhat Iclaimas new is :f-
1. A gas burner of the class described j.
Aincluding a drum formed in twosection's,
one sectionv including'a bottounrfside Walls rising from therb'ottoin and end walls rising from the bottom,` sai d end'walls being. provided 'with semi-cylindrical collarsl projectingoutwardly, said sidewalls being provided with outwardly projected flanges,l the other section' including a top wall,.side walls and end walls, the end 'walls being provided .with semi-cylindricalcollars complementary tothe collars of the said one section andsaid side walls of said other section being` provided withflanges, fastening elements piercing openings in the flanges forholding the sections together, stuffing boxes in the cylvinders formed by thecomplementaryicollars, n
' ande Vpipeextendingthrough the stuffing boxes Yand through the drum and having openings therein.'
2.. A., gasbiirner of the Class described including al drum formed in tWo sections, onesection including a bottom, side Walls rising from tliebottoni and end .Walls risinglr from thebottom, said lend jvvalls being provided? With semi-cylindrical' Collars projecting: out- Wardly, said side Walls being provided With .outwardlyprojecting flanges, the other V section'v including. a c top Wallv 'having Vupwardly Vand outwai'dly`convex cylindriel portions if is extending longitudinally thereof "and provided yvvithtr.'insversely disposed slots, side Walls depending from thetop Walls,"and end Walls depending from the top Walls, `the end ing rkelements piercing openings in the lianges p Voi holding the sections together, stuliing boxes in the cylinders formed 'by the coinpleinentaiy, collars, and ,e pipe g extending through the stuiiing boxes' and through the drum and having openings therein.
