Description

J. A.,MAHNK IDENTIFICATION BUT' I'ON Filed March 22. 1926 I Patented May mm'm moiqjjwma 1 invention *is an identification device preferably arranged in the formof abuttoh;
' An object of my inventionjis an-identification device in'the form of a hollow button 7 "ing, the' button forming a housing'for an identlficatlon mark.
adapted to .beiattached' to a persons cloth:
Another object of'my- 'invention is toform the i'dentification"mark-ordeviceina foldable strip of paper or other suitable material, the folds being shaped to neatly fit within the button type of device so that a considerable amount of information as to' thewearer may be enc-losedi-na relatively small place.
A further. object of my invention is'to form a button structure witha fastener so that it may readily 'be attached to a persons clothes and if desired,- the button maybe utilized for the purpose, of abutton. j
In constructing my invention I form a hollow receptacle preferably of circular shape and merely large enough to contaln a folded strip of paper or the like containing identification information. The strip of" paper is preferably secured to a bar or hook secured to the base of the housing or button casing and the strip of paper is'formed with a series of curves or indentations on the top and bottom so that it may be folded at the innermost meeting place of the curves and neatly packed within the button. 1
' Another feature of my invention is a pin having a holder attachable and detachable thereon so that the 'pin may be inserted through clothing or'the like and the butto firmly attached to such clothing.
My invention will be morereadily understood from the following description and drawings, in which;
"Figure '1' is a .perspective View of my identification button open, showing the strip of paper with the identification information thereon i F ig. 2 is a face "iew of the button;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation;
Fig. 4 is an inside view with the paper strip removed; i Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5 -5 of Fig. 2. r V The button structure 1 comprises a hello receptacle or the like having a base 2 pref-' erably circular with an upstanding rim 3. This rim is preferably stepped having a shoulder 4. The cap or cover 5 is preferably domed slightly,thisbeing partly for ap-' pearances' sake, and having a flange 6 fitting over the rim 3- andabuttingagainst the 5 shoulder- 4. xThumb nailjnotches 7, allow the detaching offthe-ca'p from theibase, the struc-i ture preferably being 'sufiiciently tight that it will: not readily open.
-. A" bar -8 having .:a straight centralipa'rt 93 g I and-gends-lO' secured to. thef base portion 013,1 I the 7 button -and. preferably*a lies {close tbf ftll e base. The identification'strip =11 is prefer;
ably formed iof paper or other suitable ma The strip is for'medflwith a series 'of cur'ves 'tcrial on which may 'be' wr'itten and which? wiil l not deteriorate.' Thisstrippreferably .4 has atab 1-2 which'may be looped around the".
-central part of "the bar and"glued-thereto,
13 having indentations 14, thestrip' being adapted to fold on the lines indicatedjbylf) joining the opposite indentations.
Theidentification strip may have such information as the persons name indicated by the numeral 16', his address as indicated by the numeral 17, telephone numberIS and any othersuitable directions to be utilized if the'wearer should be unconscious'or injured' or if worn by a child to give directions as to getting the child to its home if :the
child becomes lost..
I A'pin 20 is secured to the base of the button and preferablyex'tends directly at right;
angles to the base. A thumb piece'21; having a finger grip 22 toallow loosening there of, is attachable to the pin. Therefore when if I the pm is inserted through the fabric 23in-v dicating part of a persons clothing the thumb piece 21 may be secured over the end i of the pin and hold the button securely-in position. The button may,if desired, have the WOIdS identification button or the like printed or indented on the top, or the face of the button maybemade ornamental if desired. 7 v v 1 It will be apparent that the device is of a simple character and thatitcould be worn in an inconspicuous place and yet be readily.
found should the'wearer through'any cause u i become unconscious-or unable to help him self, or in the caseofbeing worn by a child,
the child should be taught to call attention to the button should it become lost;'therefore aiding in locating the home of'the child. I It will'be apparent that my device might 'be used forother purposes as for instance 7 gift devices or thelike, and that the general I v construction and specific details .could be considerably changed-to adapt it for diifer ent purposes,- However, such changes and i I modifications would" be .Within, the spin-it of-my invention asset forth in the desei ip f 7 tion, drawings gmdjclaim' 3 Having desenibed nyi invention, What I rela'im is: v 7 An "identification device comprising in,
