UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DISPLAY :onvron.
Application filed April 15,-1925. SeriaI No. 23,253.
The object of my invention is to provide a. display device in the form of atoy lighthouse, which display device is particularly applicable for use as a Christmas tree ornament to be located at the top of the tree, either supported by the tip of the tree or suspendedfrom an overhead support.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 represents the display device partly in side elevation and partly in vertical central section.
Fig. 2 represents a horizontal section taken in the plane of the line II-II of Fig. 1.
Fig. '3 represents a horizontal section :ttaken in the plane of the line III-III of The display device is in the form of a toy lighthouse comprising a tower, the sides of which are denoted by 1, the top by 2 and the bottom by 3.
A circular series of continuous windows at is provided in the side walls of the tower near its top. A plurality of downwardly and outwardly directed windows 5 are pro vided in the side walls of the tower between the top and bottom thereof. A plurality of windows 6 are provided in the bottom 3 of the tower. Certain of these windows are provided with colored panes 7 as, for instance, the downwardly and outwardly directed windows 5.
A source of light is located within the tower, said source of light being herein shown as an electric lamp 8 uprising from the bottom 3 of the tower.
A horizontally disposed shutter 9 is located within the tower and is rotated by the ascending column of heated air generated by the source of light 8. This shutter is shown as rotatably mounted on a rod 10, depending from the cap piece 11 of the top 2 of the tower. This shutter is provided with a depending peripheral flange 12 having an opening 13 located in the horizontal plane of the circular series of windows 4 so that, as the shutter is rotated by the ascending column of heated air, a revolving ray of light will be disclosed through the said windows.
The bottom 3 of the tower is provided with a depending tube 14, adapted to receive the uprising tip of a Christmas tree, for instance. for supporting the device at the top of the tree. is not. sufiiciently strong, the device may be suspended from an overhead support, by means of the eye 15 uprising from the cap piece 11.
If the said uprising tip 'From the above description itwill be i lighthouse.
It is evident that various changes may be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention; hence, I do not wish to be limited to the particular embodiment herein shown and described, but
hat I claim is 1 1. A display device in the form of a toy lighthouse comprising, a tower including a tubular body a ventilated conical top and a bottom secured to said body, a circular series of continuous windows in the upper end of the body, a source of light located within the body below said series of windows, and a horizontally disposed shutter suspended from said top within the body and rotated by the ascending column of heated air generated by said source of light. said shutter being provided with a depending outwardly flared peripheral flange having an opening in the horizontal plane of the circular series of windows to disclose a. re volving ray of light therethrough.
2. A display device in the form of a toy a bottom secured to said body, a circular series of continuous windows in the upper end of the body, a source of light located within the body below said series of windows, a horizontally disposed shutter suspended trom said top within the body and rotated by the ascending column of heated air generated by said source of light, said shutter being provided with a depending outwardly flared peripheral flange having an opening in the horizontal plane of the circular series of windows to disclose a revolving ray of light therethrough, and means on said bottom for mounting the display device on a tree.
lighthouse comprising, a tower including a- V tubular body, a ventilated conical top and 3. A display device in the form of a toy lighthouse comprising, a tower lncludinga tubular body, a ventilated conical top and a bottom secured to said body, acircular series of continu'oti'sWindowsin the upper end of the body, a source of light located within the body below said series of Win- (lows, a horizontally disposed shutter suspended from said top within the body and rotated by the ascending column oflreated "air generated by said sourceof light, said shutter being provided with a depending otihvatdly flared peripheral flange having an opening in the horizontal plane 01' the circitlar seriesoi' "\vindows to disclose a revolving ray of light therethrough, and lneaiis onthe top for suspending the display device from an overliead Suppott.
tween the conical top and bottom, said windons having substantially horizontally "clisposed panes, and a source of light located "Within the body below said circular series of windows and above said panes.
In testimony, that I claimthe foregoing as any invent-ion, I have signmliny name this fourteenth day of April, 1925.
