IMPROVEMENT IN FIRE-PLACES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,053, dated May 11, 1875; application filed August 29, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD MORTIMER DEEY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Fire-Place Heater, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure l is a front elevation of my improved heater with some parts sectioned. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation taken on the line was of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation taken on the line 3 y of Fig. 1.

A represents an open fire-grate; B, the surrounding smoke-box, and I) the airspace, having jacket E, the air being conveyed through passages F Q and pipe I or J. L is a revertible flue, having passages M and N, a pipe connecting with smoke-box O, in which is an oven, P. I place a water-back, R, in the grate, and arrange from it a steam or water pipe, S, extending along through the hot-air pipe I, into a steam drum or radiator, T, in the room, and from said radiator back into the flue, to increase its draft by the escape steam. The hot-air tube surrounding the steam-pipe extends from the hot-air chamber, and discharges into the room through a register, U, in front of which the steanrradiator creates a vacuum, and thus accelerates the discharge of hot air from the heater.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with fire-place grate, of the water-chamber R, pipe S, hot-air pipe I,
and drum T, as and for the purpose specified.
