This invention relates to improvements in;
' paper crimping machines.
It is one of the ob ects of the presentainvention to provide a machine for ruffling or crimping crepe paper. for decorative pur poses.
A provide a paper crimping machine attachable to a support and easily manually operable to quickly and efliciently crimp or ruflle paper.
A further object of the invention is to provide a. paper ruffling machinehaving an adjustment to accommodate the machine to material of dilferent thicknesses,also controlling in a measure, the character of the crimp imparted to the paper.
A further ob'ect of the invention is to provide a paper crimping or rufliing machine which is very simple in construction and operation, is inexpensive to manufacture, is
strong and durable, and is well adapted for the purposes described.
With the aboveand other objects in view the invention resides in the improved paper crimping machine and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims and all equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying drawing in which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views:
Fig. 1 is a side view of the paper crimping machine;
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof; and
Fig. 3 is an end view thereof.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing it will appear that the numeral 5 indicates a bracket port-ion'having at its ends upstanding bearing portions 6 and 7 in' which a shaft 8 is journaled. Depending from the bracket. portion is a clamping aw 9 fitted with a turn screw 10 by which means A the device may be clamped to .a table or support 11.
The outer end portion of the shaft 8 fixed thereto a crank 12 for manually rotating the shaft. The medial portion of the shaft, between the bearing portions 6 and 7,

Extending upwardly and angularly from one end of the bracket portion is an arm 15, enlarged at its upper end portion as at 16, the portion 16 being'provided with a bore to receive a shaft 17. A lug portion 22 extends upwardly'from the portion 7 for engagement witha depending lug portion 23 formed on thebearing member 18, both of said portions having internally thread-ed bores to receive the shank of an adjusting screw 24. A spring 25 is coiled about the shank of the screw and is confined between the head of the screw and I the upper surface of the lug portion 23. This arrangement permits slight yielding pivotal movement of the member 18 and upper cylinder 21 and also by threading or unthreading the screw the distance between the two cylinders may be adjusted i I Inoperation, crepe paper or other material to be ruflled' or crimped is placed between the two cylinders and the handle of the crank is turned to rotate the-cylinder 14 and thereby advance the material. The action of the ribs of the cylinders on the maseen that the improved paper crimping ma-- chine is of very simple and novel construe tion, and is well adapted for the purpose set forth.
WhatI claim as my invention is: 1. A crimping machme, comprising a bracket, a shaft, journaled therein, a ribbed cylinder carried by said shaft, means-for revolving the shaft, an arm extending angularly' upwardly from the bracket, a'bearing member form'ediwith. a bifurcated end por- 7 tion, the upper end portion of said armbeing engaged between said bifurcated end portion, a pin pivotally connecting the bearing member to saidarm, a second shaft car ried by said bearing member and parallel to said first shaft, a cooperating ribbed cylinder carried by said second shaft, and an ad justable, yielding connection between the bearing member and the bracket.
2. A crimping machine, comprising a bracket formed With an off-set lug portion, a shaft journaled in said bracket, a ribbed cylinder carried by the shaft, means for revolving the shaft, an arm extending angularly upwardly from the bracket, a bearing member formed with a bifurcated end portion, the upper end portion of said arm being engaged between said bifurcated end portion, a pin pivotally connecting the bearing member to said arm, said bearing member being formed with an ofi-set lug portion adjacent the bracket off-set lug portion, a second shaft carried by said bearing member and parallel to said first shaft, a cooperating ribbed cylinder carried by said second shaft, a set screw threaded through said bearing member, lug portion and into the bracket lug portion, and a spring coiled about said screw between its head and the upper sur' face of the bearing member lug portion.
