UNITED STATES PATENT-OFFICE.,
cARL e. HECTOR, or scorn BEND, WASHINGTON, Assrenon or ONE-HALF 'ro GEORGE J. HEIM, OF SOUTH BEND, WASHINGTON.
LEATHER ROLLER.
Application filed October 7, 1922. Serial No. 593,029.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL G. HECTOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Bend, in the county of Pacific and State oflVashington, have invented a new and useful Leather Roller, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to machines for rolling leather and more particularly to machines especially designed for thereof.
Another ob ect of the mvention is to provide a machine of this character which may be easily and readily operated, the rollers of proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a leather rolling machine constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional View taken on line 33 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the.
reference character 5 designates the base of the machine, while the reference character 6 designates one of the supporting standards. The forward supporting standard is indicated at 7, the standards having connection with the table 8, forming a part of the machine.
As shown, this table 8 is inclined and formed with spaced ears 9 at one end thereof, between which spaced ears is positioned one end of the movable supporting arm 10, and secured as by means of the pivot pin 11, to permit pivotal movement of the arm with rolling. leather soles to convex the upper surfaces respect to the table bearing 12-forms a part of the arm and supportsthe shaft 13 which carries the roller 14 that is provided with a roughened surface 15, the
roughened surface operating within the groove 16 formed in'the periphery of the roller 17. The roller 17 operates on the shaft 18 that is s pported by the standard 7. I V
The arm 10 is formed with an extension 19 which is provided with an opening to aci commodate the bolt 20 which bolt also passes through an opening formed in the extension 21 forming a part of the table 8,. a nut 22 being provided on one end of the bolt for providing a stop for the coiled spring 23, which has its upper end contacting with the under surface of the extension 21 as clearly shown by Figure 1 of the drawings. Thus it will be seen that the coiled spring 23 may be tensioned by movement of the nut 22 to cause the arm 10 to be held in proximity to, the table 8, so that when a strip of leather is passed between the rollers, pressure will be exerted thereon to tightly grip the leather, to cause the upper surface of the sole under operation, to be depressed.
Supported at one end of the shaft 13 is a handle 28 by means of which the shaft and its roller may be rotated to accomplish the lower extremity thereof into engage- 05 ment with the table 8, to the end that the 7 arm 10 moves upwardly against the tension of the spring. 23.
After the leather has been inserted between the rollers, the arm 26 is moved to its normal position permitting the coiled spring to move the table and roller supported thereby intotheir operative posi-' tions.
What is claimed is v In a machine for rolling leather, standards, an inclined table at the upper ends of the standards, a supporting arm having pivotal connection with the table at one end thereof, said table having an extension 10 as by formed With an opening, a bolt extending through the arm and opening of the extension of the table, a coiled spring on the bolt and having contact with the extension, means on the bolt and engaging the coiled spring for causing movement of the arm with respect to the table, a shaft carrying a roller, mounted on the arm, said roller having a convexed surface, a roller disposed under the first mentioned roller, the last mentioned roller having a concaved surface to receive the convex surface of the adjacent roller, and manually controlled means for moving the arm away from the table.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as 15 my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CARL Gr. HECTOR.
Witnesses JOHN T. lVELsH, GEORGE J. HEIM.
