llVith each downward move, therefore` ot' the plunger 6, the carriage 19 isV moved leftwardly one step a predetermined clistance so as tocut through another section of the fabric 31upon the table 32.

Likewise the table 32 can be brought torvvard upon` the rollers 31 or pushed 'back- Ward into the machine as may loe found desirable for adjustment., and in this Way the entire klength ot the layers of fabric .31 can Abe punched or cut `in successive transverse lines until the entire 'Fabric has been used up', the successive transverse cuttings being separated a predetermined extent according to the particular' rack or 'notched bar 17 used and Which bar is of course changed with di terent dies tor different cuttings.
Of course it Will be understood that various moditications may be made in the construction and arrangement Yof parts With-V out departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. Ina machine of the class described, a

hinged U-shaped bar resiliently retained upon the front of the plunger head of said machine, another bar beneath the same upon said head having spaced apart engaging means, a carriage and means for feeding the saine along said other bar and beneath said' `machineadapted to slidably and entirelyT carry said die holder, one ot said supports having recesses determining the movement of said holder, and means for shifting said holder step by step along said supports engaging and disengaging successively said recesses.
3. Ina machine of the class described, a cutting block, a die, a die holder, means 'for moving the die and die holder to and from said block, two supports upon and at either side of adapted to slidably carry said die holder, one oli' said supports having a series of stops, and means for moving said holder step by step successively in and out of said stops across said machine, said means for moving said holder located only at opposite sides of-said machine.
In a machine of the class described, a cutting block, a die, a die holder, means for automatically depressing said holder and for moving the same laterally a predetermined distance each time the saine is depressed, a bar having retaining means, means upon said holder for engaging the same, and means operatively connected with the driving inschanism of said machine Vtor periodicaliy and successively disconnecting said retaining and engaging means. In a machine of the class described` a ,cutting block, a die, a die holder, means 'for automatically depressing said holder and Jfor moving the same laterally a predetermined distance each time the same is depressed, a bar having retaining means,means upon said holder for engaging 4the same, and means operatively connected with the driving mechanism of said machine for periodicaily and siiiccessively (flisconnecting said retaining and engaging means, said last mentioned means comprising a substantially verti 'ally 1novable transversely extending member.
