CIGARETTE CASE.
Application inea April 3o, 1922i.
This invention relates to a cigarettecase. Au object of the invention to provide a cigarette case which can be stainilied with one die from one piece of leather or similar Vfabric or from tin or other metal, and when formed is adapted to provide a case for cigarettes as well as a holder for the cigar lighter and portable lamp.
Another object concerns the provision of simple and efficient.. means whereby cigarettes can be more efliciently held coii'ipactly within a case and dispensed therefrom.
A still further object concerns the provision of simple and efficient means whereby means forming part of the cigarette case will (zo-operate with the lighter element to prevent the striker from falling out of place.
The invention is illustrated in the draw-` ings, of which- .Figure 1 is a perspective view of the combiriation i Fig. 2 is a section on the line Q-MQ of Fig. 1;
3 a section on the line 3-3 of Figwl is a partial perspective view of the cover flap;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the metal liningr for the casing; and y Fig. 6`is a plan view of the blank of the container. y
The form of the invention shown in the drawings is a preferred form, although it is understood that modifications in the construction and arrangement of the parts and in the character of the materials used may be adopted without departing from the spirit'of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
In general this 'invention includes a cigarette case made of one ieee of leather or fabric or metal. This lank is provided with an extension which is bent down over one face of the blank and spaced therefrom to form a chamber for the receipt of a portable lighter which can be slipped therein. The blank is also provided with another extension which acts as a flap and cover for the top of the cigarette case and is then bent down along the front of the case to7 preferably, embrace the edges of the lighter and also the striker therefor to prevent it from'falling out.
This cover flap is preferably apertured Serial No. 27,098.
so as to permit the front of thelighter to be exposed even when the .tiap is in position and closed. y
The container is also provided with a metal lining' adapted to hold a` cigarette pack from'being crushed as the cigarettes are taken tl'ierefrom. This lining is also provided with means at the bottom to hold the pack in position, and a portion of the lining at the top is cut away to expose lthe top of some of the ci 'ettes so to enable the smoker to i'emov them more easily.
In the preferrciil form of the invention I provide a blank, preferably of leather, although it may be made of other material. This blank provided with a rear portion 1l), a front portion 11 and co-operating connecting portions. The rear portion 1() at the top `provided lwith a flap 12 which extends down along the front of the front portion 11. This "Hap is connected to the rear portion 1() by a cover portion 13. The flap .l2 is aperturcd as at 11 for a purpose hereinafter to be described. The front portion 11 is provided with an extension or flap 15 whichis adapted to be bent down along the front thereof and spaced therefrom. The lower end of this flap can be sewed or otherwise fastened to the front wall l1 and. provides therewith a chamber for the receiptof a metal cigarette lighter 16.
This lighter is preferably a metal container in which suitable inflammable liquid is contained. This liquid is preferably ben Ziner orgasoline and is held therein by being absorbed in a fibrous material such as 1.7. The bottoni of the igniter is provided with an aperture through which a stem 18 project-s. The stem has a handle or knob 19 on its lower end. The stem is the lighter and striker and at its upper end 20 is provided with material which when rubbed along the igniting surface or stone such as 21 will cause the ignition of the inflammable liquid to ena-ble the smoker to light the cigar or cigarette. The striker stone is held in position on the face of the igniter by being placed in a groove or slot therein. Preferably the flap 15 is provided with a slot 22 which registers with the location of the stone and, as shown in Fig. 1, is provided with a metal edging 23 which stiffens the flap and also enables the stone 21 to be held in place. It is easy to see that the cigar lighter 16 lou can (be slid in between the tlap 15 and the front wall 11 of the cigarette case and can as easily be slid thereout.
This igniter or lighter is so disposed that the striker stem or head 19 extends downwardly away from the top of the casing so that danger of setting tire to the cigarettes or cigars is minimized.
The flap 12 which forms the cover is adapted, as shown in Fig. 1, to extend downwardly across the 'front of the case, the portion 13 acting as a cover tor the top of the case and the opening 14 permitting the exposure of the igniter 16 and the flap 15. The lower end of the tlap 12 is provided with a metal iinger 24 which is bent inwardly7 and as the Vflap is moved into the position shown in Fig. 1 will lie beneath the head 19 of the striker 1S to prevent the striker from falling out oit the igniter.
Preferably the aperture 14 is provided with a metal lining or edging 25 which will reenforce the edges or' the flap adjacent the opening and prevent them from curling up. This flap will also prevent the lighter from slipping out Yfrom between the iiap 15 and the front wall 11.
The case is provided with a metal lining 26 in the iorm or' a sheet bent as shown in Fig. 5. One edge of the bottom ot this sheet is provided with a ilangc portion 27 which will project under the bottoni o' the cigarette package to hold it in position. One portion of the upper edge oi' this sheet, as shown at 28, is cut away so that the upper ends of certain or' the cigarettes are exposed to permit their ready withdrawal troni the case. This cut-away portion also permits the upper portion'of the cigarette pack to be torn orf to expose the cigarettes therewithin.
In the general construction of the invention, therefore, it is obvious that practically the entire device can be made out of one sheet of material. The iiap 15 acts as a container for the lighter. The flap 12 acts as a cover and as a means to hold the lighter in position and to prevent the striker thereof from telling out. The igniting surface 21 can be loosely disposed on the lace ot the lighter 1G and will be held in position by the metal edging 22S olf the slot 22. The lining 26 within the case will protectl the cigarette pack and provide a means whereby the npper portion can be torn oil' easily to expose the cigarettes and hold the pack in position therein and will also act as a more or less i'irm base for the action ot the striker stein when the smoker is attempting to niahe a light.
that I claiin is 1. A cigarette case having its ,t'ront and rear walls :ornied integr-alliv with a liap extending troni the edge ot each wall. one ot' said liaps adapted to be bent down along the tace of the front wall to .torni a pocket projecting therefrom 'for a lighter casing, the other ot said ilaps being provided with an aperture and adapted to be bent down over the top ot the cigarete case and along the i'ifront wall thereof with the said pocket projecting into the aperture.
2. A cigarette case having a flap projecting from its tront wall7 said flap being bent outwardly7 then downwardly parallel and in spaced relation to the front wall and then inwardly and secured at its end only to said wail, and an apertured iap on the rear wall bert down over the top oi the cai-e and along the iront wall oit the case with the pocket projecting through the. aperture thereof.
A cigarette case haif'ing a .tlap projectA ing from its ,front wall, said flap being benl down along the itront all ot the case and its lower end only secured to the wall` tln` intermediate portion of the iiap being parallel with the -all and spaced therefrom to form a pocket and a tlap jirojectingr` troni the rear wall of the case and extending over the top and front wall ot the case, said flap being provided with an opening having a metal lining and through which the pocket projects.
