Description

UN TED STATES PATENT OFFICE ALLAN L. MUDONALD, OF GLOUCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRAWL-ROLLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,845, dated May 4, 1875; application filed November 23, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALLAN L. MCDONALD, of Gloucester, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trawl- Rollers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in trawl-rollers; and it consists in a roller havin g a number of grooves cut in its periphery, and which is attached to the side of the Wherry or dory, and over which the trawls are drawn into the boat, as will be more fully dethe roller 0, over which the trawl is drawn into the boat. This roller is smaller in diameter along the center than it is at each end, and in this smaller part, running parallel around the roller, are a number of grooves, e, in which the trawlcatches as it is being drawn in. At each end of the roller is formed a flange, g, which serves to prevent the trawl from slipping olf the roller. By means of this device the labor of drawing in the trawls is greatly lessened, besides enabling it to be done so much more rapidly.
Having thus described my invention I claim- The combination of the frame to, having the shank i, for attaching it to the side of the boat, in combination with the grooved roller 0 0, provided with the flanges g on its ends, to prevent the ropes from slipping off, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I. have hereunto set my hand this 18th day of November, A. D. 1874.
ALLAN L. MCDONALD.
