My invention relates to an improvement in garment protectors shown in the accompanying drawings and more particularly described in the following specification and claim. 7

The primary object of my invention is to provide a garmentwhich may be termed a semi-overall, designed especially for drivers of motor vehicles.to protect their clothing from soiling while working around the vehicle, the construction being such that it may be quickly put on or removed with a minimum expenditure of eflort.

A further object of the invention is to provide a protecting garment in which all buttons or similar fastening means are climi nated, the construction being such that when soiled it may be readily laundered.

A further object of the invention is to provide detachable means for clipping the protector to the body at the end of the trouser legs,around the waist,and also at the neck of the wearer, the construction being such that it may be instantly removed by grasping the front of the garment and pulling it oif,there being no buttons or snap fasteners to disengage before removing the garment.

With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention further resides in details of construction hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the claim,it being understood that changes may be made in the present embodiment, as covered by the scope of the'claimwithout departing from the spirit of my invention.

In the drawings accompanying this specification:

Figure 1 shows the device applied to the wearer.

Figure 2 is an,elevation of the device showing a portion of .the transverse strappockets attached to the. legsbroken away and the spring attaching clips removed,as when made ready for the laundry.

Figure 3 is a fragmentary detail, showing a portion of one of the strap-pockets with to the. letters of referenceper end of the cloth has a recess A to accommodate the neck of the wearer,surrounded by an arc-shaped strip D stitched to the body of the fabric, forming a pocket C to receive a spring clip B, similar to that indicated in Figure 4. The clip is inserted through the opening cl,'which is spaced from the end of the pocket to provide a recess 03 into which the end of the clip may project that it may not work out through the slit when in use. The tubular strip D at the waist line and bottom of the trouser legs are also provided with transverse slits d through which similar spring clips B are inserted, of

roper size and shape, the ends of the clips eing bent to form an eye I) whereby the ends of the clips when inserted in the pockets will not poke through the fabric and thereby cause annoyance.

Having indicated the several parts by reference letters the construction and application of the device will be readily understood.

As previously described, slitted openings (l are provided leading into the several pockets and through these openings spring (lips B of proper size and form are inserted to secure the protector over the wearers clothes and when the garment is laundered the clips are removed'as shown in Figure 2.

The clips at the lower end of the legs are first engaged over the trousers to the ankles of the wearer,-the knee clips are then engaged, to be followed by the clip at the waist in regular order. The clip B encircling the neck of the'wearer and supporting the bib portion of the device is then engaged to pro- -tect the shirt of the wearer.

To remove the device it is only necessary to grasp the cloth in one hand and pull it away from the body to free the overall from the clothes of the wearer. When it becomes necessary to launder the garment the spring clips B arefirst removed through the slotted openings 03' when it may be readily Washed, and ironed by running the same through a mangle.

Having thus described my invention what ljclaim is:

A. garment protector comprising a strip of cloth having parallel side edges and bifurcated at one end to form separate leg por tions; a plurality of tubular pockets formed of fabric stitched to the inner surface of the cloth strip in spaced relation to each other eeaiee with the ends of the pockets extending beyond the marginal edges of the cloth, each of said pockets having an opening beyond said marginal edges through which spring clips may be inserted and removed; and a plurality of removable spring clips adapted to be housed in the several pockets for engaging the protector over the clothing of the wearer.
