IMPROVEMENT IN CMBlNED WASH-BENCHES AND WRINGERS.
v Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,820, dated May 4, 1875 5 application led March 29, 1875.
To all whom it muy concern;
Be it known that we, ORsEMoR S. HOLDEN and JOHN S. COREY, of Felchville, in the county of Windsor and State of Vermont, have invented anew and Improved Combined Wash-Bench and Wrin ger, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a vertical longitudinal section on the line c c, Fig. 2, of our improved wash-bench and Wringer combined, and Fig. 2, a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
In this invention the wringing-rolls and an inclined shelf are supported above or over the Wash-bench by a frame, which is joined to and forms part of the bench, so that as the clothes are passed up between the rolls directly from the tub, they are deposited on the inclined shelf, and thereby conveyed to a basket or other receptacle.
The invention also includes an arrangement of parts for regulating the pressure, all as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, Arepresents a wash-bench of suitable construction, the rear posts B of which are extended to suitable height for supporting the wringer in convenient position above the wash-tub. The spring-acted pressure-rollers O of the Wringer turn in bearings of the slotted forward-extending arms B of the posts or standards B, one roller being operated by a hand-crank, while the shaft ends of the front roller are acted upon by the hook ends of sliding rods D, that move in suitable grooves of the top pieces of arms B. The rear ends of rods D are secured by fasteningnuts a. to the upper ends of strong band-springs E, that are bolted at their lower ends to the lower part of the supporting-posts, and regulated to the required degree of tension by crank screw-bolts E', that turn in socket-nuts of the posts midway between the ends of the springs. The clothes are fed from the tub to the rollers, and passed through the saine to the upper part, and thence over an inclined plane, F, to the receiving-basket. An inclined guard-piece, F', at the top of the front roller secures the forward feeding of the clothes. The wringer is placed in convenient position above the tub, and admits, by the carrying off of the clothes over the incline, the rapid feeding of the clothes to the rolls.
We are aware that previous to our invention wringer-rolls had been arranged horizontally, and the pressure between them regulated by springs and adjusting-screws.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1.` The wringer-rolls C C, supported' horizontally in arms B B', the vertical frame B B, the inclined shelf F and guard F', and wash-bench A, the said frame being connected with and forming part of the bench, all as shown and described, whereby the operation of wringing and discharging the clothes may be carried on, in the manner set forth.
2. The spring-plate E, attached to and extending along the standards B, the crankscrews E', the horizontal sliding hook-rods D, arms B', and movable and xed rolls, all combined and arranged as shown and described.
ORSEMOR S. HOLDEN, JOHN S. OOREY.
