This strap or belt 21 is provided with a buckle 22 and usual perforations 22%, so that it may be adjusted to any degree oft tightness desired by the wearer.
Slidably mounted in the vertical tubular standards 10, I provide rod-like standards M, which are detachable from the tubular standards 10 and which may be vertically adjnjsted in the tubular standards 10 to any suitable degree. standards 2% are preferably of rod-like formation, but may, if desired, likewise be made in tubular shape.
Carried upon the upper ends oi the standards 2a and in fixed relation therewith, is a top framework, comprising opposite substantially parallel side portions 26 and 27, which are provided at their opposite ends with arms 28 and 29, bent at substantially right angles to the sides 26 and 27 and which lie in substantially the same plane. and extend transversely 'rom the sides 26 and 27 toward each other. The transverse end portions 28 and 29 each extend less than the entire distance between the sides 26 and 27. One pair of the transverse arms 29 forming these end portions are provided with bent up side members 30 and 31, which 6::- tend a suitable distance along the length of the members 29 and are so formed that they provide a case or channel in which the members 2S cooperating with the members 29, may be received and slide. A canopy a l made oi any suitable fabr'c, or material that will be of sulhcient lightness in weight to be desirable for its intended use and which is preferably waterproof, is securely attached to the rod-like members 37 and 38 on the opposits sides of the top frame formed by the side members 26 and 2? and the end mem bers 28 and 29 and is stretched from the members 3? and across the above described canopy holding frame. The canopy ist may thereby be stretched tightly over the top canopy holding frame, by adjusting the collars 41. 42 carrying the sub-frame, to the desired height upon the vertical standard 24. The canopy is thus tightly held against displacement by wind or otherwise and securely retained in its proper operative position to shield the wearer from the sun, rain or other elements as intended.
The operation of my device is as follows The vertical standards 10 are placed by positioning the padded saddle pieces 11, with the straps l5 and 16 attached thereto, over the shoulders of the wearer. The belt 21 is then securely fastened in position around the body below the arm pits and the saddle pieces 11 are securely drawn into place and adjusted by tightening the straps 15 and 16 in the buckles 18 and 17 attached to the straps 19 and 20. The vertical. stand ards are adjusted in the tubular vertical standards 10 to the desired height. so that the canopy supporting framework, comprising the side members 26 and 27 and the end members 28 and. 29, will be at the desired height above the wearers head. The width of the canopy supporting top frame mav then be adjusteitl to the desired Flat, by sliding the end members 38 and 29 upon each other to the proper position'and locking these men'ibers in adjustment by means of the wing nut 35. The canopy may then be stretched tightly across and over the top canopy supporting frame, by sliding the collars 41 and 42, carrying the canopy holding bars or rods 37 and 38, to the desired position along the vertical standards 24: and locking these collars and the canopy holding subtrame in this position, by means of the set screws 43. The parts will then be assembled as intended for use and the device may be i 20, or and 19" may beunfastened or loosened at the buckles 18' and 17 respectively. ll hen this is done the device may beremoved by merely dismounting' the saddle portion from the shoulders That my apparatus may have no unnecessary weight, the standards and framework including the saddlepieces, may be made of aluminum, or any sufiicientl'y light and strong metallic material or they may beconstru'cted of any other suitable material for instance, of bamboo: The canopy may be made of water-proof. oiled silk, rubberized fabric or any other suitable material of sufficient durability to withstand ordinary use under the various conditions of climate or weather in which my device may be employed.
By reason of the peculiar construction of my device, it is apparent that it maybe readily disassembled and stored or carried in a compact manner and in a minimum of space and that it may be readily and conveniently transport-edas a whole. 7
It will be obvious that I have provided means that-may be conveniently attached to the body of the wearer and readily detached therefrom, which will partially shield the wearer from the effects and action of the elements, which is adjustable in many of its parts,whichisof durable and simple con struction, which is light in weight, which will not obstruct the vision or impede the, use
of the limbs or other parts of the wearers body, which may be; conveniently transported in. assembled or disassembled condition, which isnof few parts, of comparatively cheap manufacturing cost, which has a high degree of efiiciency for the purposes for which it is designed and which may have other advantages and: results not specifically herein set forth.
Althou-ghl'have shown and described my invention in detail, I do not wish to be limited thereby, except, as the state of the art and the appended claims may require, for it is obvious that various modifications and changes may be made therein, without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.

In a device of the character described, the combination of a laterally adjustable top canopy carrying framework of a substantial rectangular shape, comprising a pair of members forming the sides and ends of said frame, one of said members having chan nelled guiding means adapted to receive and hold the other of said members in laterally slidable relation thereto, means carried by one of said members adapted to lock said pair of members in adjusted position and means connected to said canopy carrying framework adapted to support said frame work upon the body of a wearer.

In a device of the character described, the combination of a top canopy carrying framework of a substantially rectangular shape comprising a pair of members forming the sides and ends of said framework, one of said members having a channelled guiding means adapted to receive and hold the other of said pair of members in later ally slidable relation thereto, means carried by one of said members adapted to lock said pair of members in laterally adjusted relation, a canopy supported on and spanning said framework, vertically supporting members connected to said framework and adapted to support said framework in operative position upon the body of a wearer and means vertically slidable upon said supporting framework connected to I said canopy, adapted to adjust said canopy to said supporting framework independently of the means to laterally adjust said canopy supporting framework.

In a device of the character described, the combination of a laterally adjustable canopy supporting frame, a canopy spanning said frame and adjustably supported thereon, means to support said canopy frame in vertically adjustable relation to said supporting means, means vertically adjustable on said supporting means adapted to effect the adjustment of said canopy to said canopy frame, independently of the adjustment vertically of said canopy frame to said supporting means, and means to adjust said canopy frame later lly, independently of the adjustment of said canopy to said frame.

In a device of the character described, the combination of a canopy frame having its lateral longitudinal sides laterally adjustable in relation to each other, means to lock said sides in adjusted position, means to support said canopy frame in vertically adjustable relation to said supporting means, independently of means to effect the lateral adjustment of said canopy frame, a canopy carried on and spanning said canopy frame, means carried on said supporting means connected to said canopy and vertically adjustable on said supporting means, independently of the vertical adjustment of said canopy frame and means adapted to operably support said supporting means on the body of the wearer.
10. In a device of the character described, the combination of a canopy carrying framework, a canopy adjust-ably supported on said framework, means to adjust said canopy to said framework, and means to operably support said canopy framework supporting means on the body of the wearer, said canopy carried framework comprising a pair of frame sections, one of said sections being provided with channel portions adapted to guide and receive the other of said sections, a threaded stud carried upon one of said sections and a nut in adjustable engagement with said stud, adapted to engage the other of said sections and lock said frame work sections in adjusted relation.
