Description
Oct. 13, 1931.
J. KOTAUSEK REPOSING MAT WITH F OLDABLE SUN BLIND Filed April 10 1930 Patented Oct. 13, 1931 PATENT OFFICE JOSE! KOTAUSEK, OF VIENNA, AUSTRIA BEPOSING MA'I. WITH FOLDABLE SUN-BLIND Application filed April 10, 1930, Serial No. 448,076, and in Austria October 9, 1929.
This invention relates to a reposing mat of fabric, bastor other suitable material designed to be used on the strand, in airand sun baths. This mat is not only a support for the body but protects the head against the direct action of the sun rays.
The elastichead rest consists of a pocket in which an inflatable air cushion is inserted which serves at the same time as support for the frame of the sun-blind. When the air cushion is deflated the rolled mat, the deflated air cushion, the folded frame of the sun-blind, bathing suits, other articles, victuals and the like can be packed in the v 1 pocket. The sun-blind is formed by a length of fabric sewn or otherwise fixed on the pocket and can be rolled up for transport.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanymg drawings in which: p ig. 1 shows the reposing mat ready for use i Fig. 2 shows the pocket and the sun-blind. Fig. 3 showsthe reposing mat with the lateral supports for the sun-blind laid down.
Fig. 4 shows the length of fabric forming the sun-blind.
The reposing mat consists of the mat proper 1 of suitable size, of fabric, bast plaiting $0 or other plaiting, of a head rest12 and of a sun-blind 9. The mat 1 has on one of its ends side flaps 2. On each side flap 2 one element 3 of two press buttons are fixed. Two inde endent frames a and a serve for 85 erecting -t' r e sun-blind, each frame consisting of three bars 4, 5, 6 and 4, 5', 6' respectively pivotally connectedwitli one another at 7, 7, 7 'f and 7" so that they can be mu.-
tually adjusted, bearing the one on the other with friction. The lower ends of the bars 4 and .5 carrying each the corresponding element of the press buttons 3 on the side flaps 2 of the mat 1. The upper ends 8, 8, 8"
and 8" of the bars 4, 4', 6' and 6 are bent each edge designed to be used for adjusting the. angle of inclination of the sun-blind.
The sun-blind is fixed on or forms the extension of a pocket 12. A cylindrical aircushion is accommodated in the pocket 12 and serves in inflated state as head rest and as support for the two lateral frames a and a. The front edge of the sun-blind has a stiffening rod 13. The sun-blind can be rolled up and secured in this state by means of straps or bands 14 which carry an element of press buttons 16 arranged close to the handle 17. The handle-17 and the corresponding elements of the press buttons 16 are fixed on a stiffening rod 13a.
To make the reposing' mat ready for use the mat 1 is unrolled on the ground and the o5 lateral frames a and a are fixed by means of the press buttons 3 on the side flaps 2.
The pocket 12 is then -attached on the mat 1 by means of straps 18 and press buttons 19, the press buttons 15 are unbuttoned and the sun-blind is unrolled, whereupon the air cushion inrthe pocket is inflated. The lat eral frames (1 and a are brought into the vertical position, the pocket 12 is pushed between them, and the sun-blind is adjusted and secured in the adjusted position by means of the press button 10.
In the form of construction shown in Fig. 2 the sun-blind 9 is rolled into a small roll over the pocket 12, the straps or bands 14 are then passed around the rolled sun-blind and the press button parts 15 connected to the press. button parts 16.
1. A reposing mat with foldable sunblind, comprising in combination with the mat proper, two foldable lateral frames removably fixed on'the sides of said mat, a' pocket on the head end of said mat, a length of fabric forming the sun-blind extending from said pocket and adapted to be attached to said lateral frames, and an air cushion in said pocket adapted to serve as head rest. 1
2. A reposing mat with foldable sun-blind as specified in claim 1, in which the inflated 95 air cushion serves as support for the two lateral frames carrying the sun-blind.
In testimony whereof I afiix m signature.
