Description

1,627,463 y 1927- M.-J. RUSSAK C IGARETTE HOLDER Filed Nov. 28, 1925 WITNESSES IN VENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented May 3, 1927.
MICHAEL J. RUSSAK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CIGARETTE HOLDER.
Application filed November 28, 1925.
This invention relates to cigarette holders. Some of the objects of the present invention are to provide a cigarette holder capable of being supported on a finger of the hand and which will also support a cigarette in a manner in which a person will have thebenefit of the taste of the tobacco of the cigarette by being able to bring one end of the ciga rette directly between the lips; to provide a cigarette holder capable of being supported on a finger of the hand which will permit of the free use of all of the fingers o the hand; to provide a device with whic 1 cigarettes may be smoked without discoloring the finers with nicotine; and to provide a cigarette older which is simple of construction, comparatively convenient to use, and which is inexpensive.
The nature of the invention and its distinguishing features and advantages will appear when the following specification is read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a View illustrating the device of the present invention supported on a finger of a hand with a cigarette held thereby.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view ;taken substan tially on the line 22 of Fig. 1 and looking in the direction indicated by the arrows.
Referring now more particularly to the views of the drawing it will be apparent that the device of the present invention includes a supporting means 10 which includes a finger gripper 11, and a cigarette gripper 12. The supporting means 10 and the finger gripper 11, in the present embodiment, is produced by utilizing a single piece of material preferably of metal, which is cut, bent, and formed to provide a supporting member 13 havin a jaw 14 at one end in a ring-like member aving relatively flexible portions 15 which constitute the gripper 11. Slightly above the juncture between the ring-like finger gripper 11 and the supporting member 13 is a pair of apertured lugs 16 on the member 13. The cigarette gripper 12 beside the jaw 14 will include a jaw 17 formed at one end of a member 18 which is substantially similar in shape to the member 13 and Serial No. 71,984.
pivot pin 20 by virtue of which the member 18 is movable toward and away from the member 13. It will, therefore, be understood that due to the fact that the member 18 is movable toward and away from the member 13 the jaw 17 will also be movable toward and away from the jaw 14. The jaws 14 and 17 are slightly curved so as to conform to the sides of a cigarette which will be held between the same as shownin the drawing. The jaw 17 is constantly urged toward the jaw 14 by a means in the form of a coil spring 21 which encircles the pivot pin 20 which has one end thereof in engagement with the lower end of the member 18, as at 22, and the oppositeend of the spring is in engagement with the member 13, as at 23. In order to effect the movement of the member 18 and, therefore, its jaw 17 away from the jaw 14 there is provided a lever 24 whose pivot is carried by one of the portions 15. One end of the lever has an angularly disposed portion 25 which is disposed between the members 13 and 18, and said lever also has a manipulating portion 26.
The device of the present invention is used in the manner presently to be described. The finger gripper 11 is applied in gripping enagement with a finger, preferably the fore- 'nger of the left hand, which will support the device so that a cigarette may be arranged between the jaws 14 and 17, and this is accomplished by manipulating the portion 26 with the thumb to cause the jaw 17 to move away from the jaw 14 far enough so that a cigarette may be arranged between the aws 14 and 17. The manipulating portion 26 is then released, whereupon the spring 21 functions immediately to cause the member 18 to move toward the member 13, and as a result the jaw 17 will coact with the jaw 14 to hold the cigarette, indicated at C, conveniently accessible. It is to be noted that the cigarette will be supported transversely with respect to the forefinger of the hand, as shown most clearly in Fig. 1.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that a cigarette may be supported to be smoked in a manner in which a person will have the benefit of the taste by direct contact of the lips with one end of a cigarette; that the cigarette will be held so that a person will have the use of all of the fingers of the hand; and that the fingers will not be discolored with nicotine due to the indirect manner in which the cigarette is held by a first member, means acting on the pivoted finger of the band. member constantly urging the jaw thereon What I claim is: toward the jaw on the other member, and A cigarette holder comprising a substanlever means carried by the clip for effecting 5 tially U-shaped spring clip for supporting the movement of the pivoted member to move the holder on a finger of ahand, a member its jaw away from the other jaw. having a jaw integral with the clip, a memher having a jaw pivotally connected to said MICHAEL J. RUSSAK.
